Re: metformin and avandia combined

I have been taking avandamet 2/1000 once a day. My doctor says it is a new drug and the 5 year tests say that if you are not taking insulin shots that everyone who took avandamet in the trials never had their diabetes get worse. Have been taking a month now. I take with food as it upset my stomach the first week bad, but after that just some heartburn once in a while. Maybe a little diarheah, but nothing serious. My blood sugar went from 200-220 to 90-150 while taking this for one month. My body is starting to produce more insulin for itself now and for some unknown reason I lost 9 pounds this month and this is the first time in 10 years I have lost weight this fast.

Re: metformin and avandia combined

I've been taking Avandamet 4/1000 since May of this year. Initially, It made me slightly nauseas, my left ankle swelled, and I gained 10lbs. After a couple of weeks, though, it all went away. I get absolutely no side effects at all anymore.

Thumbs up Re: metformin and avandia combined

I have been taking both metformin and avandia combined for quite some time now. Metformin is the generic form of glocophage (sp) which gave me terrible diarrhea, and eventually the glucophage was not digesting in my stomach so it was not working. That's when the doctor but me on Metformin. It works much better... but your stomach might start grumbling and growling at you from time to time, along with a little diarrhea. But don't worry; this is few and far between.

The Avandia... well, I don't think I have any side effects of any kind. But I read on another website that it causes liver failure and heart failure... whether this has been proven or not is beyond me. So, be sure your doctor continues to do regular blood tests to check these areas.

I think both are very good and seem to control sugar very well.
Good luck.

Re: metformin and avandia combined

I'm taking Metformin 500 mg 2 x day and I'm experiencing diarrhea, and some strange feelings in my stomach. It does seem to be getting better though, I've been taking it for 2 weeks. Strangely enough, I took Glucophage the BRAND 4 years ago, and I don't recall any of these side effects
