Re: Verapamil and Heart palpitaions

I take verapamil 240mgs. i 've been on it for five or six yrs, and yes i have experienced palps all that time. I was told not to worry, but sometimes it scares me bcuz i think my heart will stop beating.

Cass, i didn't know verapamil slows the heart down.

Re: Verapamil and Heart palpitaions

Hi Cass,
40 miles SE in Wilson County. ANd YES, very scary. I keep asking the techs if everything sounds normal when I call in an episode and they just tell me if it was anything life threatening they would send me to the ER. Doesn't make me feel much better LOL

Re: Verapamil and Heart palpitaions

Hi Texas! I am in S.A! Yes I have been taking verapamil. I start and stop myself which is not to be copied. I stopped taking it because I got the the worst acid reflux last week and I wasnt taking it with food. As far as the palps, get on a calsium/mag supplement. If you are worried about the calsium, then get the magnisium. It is the magnisium that we are depleated of in our diets. See if that controls those ugly palps! I love my cal/mag supplement! I need to find a new dr. I have to wvercome my fear of drs and getting my bp taken.

Yes, But it's supposed to. It doesn't slow it down too much but if you also take a beta blocker it can get pretty low. Mine got down to 43 when I was taking 100mg of atenolol and 240 of verapamil and I got dizzy spells. I had to cut the atenolol down to 50mg.

Re: Verapamil and Heart palpitaions

Cass, no i stopped taking the toprol xl 100mg due to severe side effects. Along with the verapamil, i take hctz 25mgs and avapro 150. I think tomorrow i'll take the verapamil and avapro and half of the hctz. Can verapamil cause shortness of breathe?
