Anyone on as many meds for BP?

I am taking Diovan HCT, Cardura, Norvasc, Clonodine, Inspra, Toprol XL all for BP and Lipitor for Cholesterol. Does anyone take that many meds? I've been on BP meds for about 15 years now (I'm just 45 now) and still not under control. Recommendations? New doctor or is there a clinic that specializes in BP?

Thanks!!

Re: Anyone on as many meds for BP?

I WAS on toprol xl 100mgs, verapamil 240mgs, lisinopril 40mgs, hctz 25 mgs and ecotrin 325 mgs all for bp. That doesn't cover my diabetes or thyroid problem. Yeas it did lower my bp to about 113/72. BUT i suffered so with side effects that i am now on 240 verapamil, 325 mg ecotrin and 12.5 hctz. im suppose to take 150 avapro, but im not. I will start after seeing my new dr and hopefully a cardio. At one point i was on 24 pills, including lipitor.

Re: Anyone on as many meds for BP?

I have fought this HBP for many years and have taken a lot of meds. Right now I take Benicar HCT 40/25, Atenolol 50, and Zocor ( for high cholesterol )
These keep my BP at about 114/66 but a few months ago I was on micardis, Altace, atenolol, and clonidine along with the Zocor with out control. When I saw a cardiologist she got me straightened out.

Re: Anyone on as many meds for BP?

If it's not under control with that many meds. than maybe those meds. aren't right for you. The more meds., the more chance for lots of terrible side-effects (trust me). Altace was horrible when I took it, Toprol was really bad, Atenolol is causing me all kinds of trouble at times, Lotrel works well (sometimes too well). I wish I could just take one med. My B/P has been consistently around 114/64 & Lotrel & Atenolol is too much. My system can't take 100 MGS of Atenolol & 5/20 of Lotrel. My B/P might be really low, but what about quality of life??? I'm 33, thin 5 '11 151, drink no alcohol, & my only vice is smoking. I didn't smoke for an entire afternoon & my b/p was 107/60.
