Question What med could cause stomach burning?

Hi Everyone,
I take Hyzarr, Lotrel, (for BP)...Effexor and Doxepin (depression, anziety)...Ultram (pain). My doc just increased the Effexor to 225 mg, that seems to be when the trouble started, but the side affect is rated very low. I also take vitamins of different kinds, Glucosamine and Lutein. The only new things are the effexor dose and also a recent upage in Doxepin dose. I am living on antacids, and they aren't helping. Anyone got any idea? BTW, I also have IBS but this is constant, not like when I'm under stress and it acts up. Help!!!!

Re: What med could cause stomach burning?

Hi,
Effexor could cause stomach burning, and unfortunately, I'm really not familiar with Hyzarr and Lotrel, but you could have an ulcer. I'm assuming that you have seen a gasteroenterologist/currently go to one, so if antacids aren't helping, you should ask to be tested for H. Pylori, the bacteria that causes ulcers. That's a rather heavy load of meds, so all of them together could possibly be doing a number on your tummy. Good luck

Thanks very much, sure hope I don't have an ulcer....this is just so sudden, I am afraid it is all the meds combined. Gonna start taking BP meds at night and stop vitamins. Hopefully, this will work. If not, back to doc, but I go to four of them....man, what a mess. All this to get "better".

Boy do I know that feeling. I was told that I have Barretts Esophagus.Caused by acid reflux. i never felt that heartburn or any related condition was bothering me. Then one day I had horrible chest pain. I thought it had to be a heartattack. To make a long story short( after extensive testing) the doc said barretts esophagus. i recently moved from Fl. to OH. & am looking for a new doc. does anyone know anything about Barretts?

Re: What med could cause stomach burning?

Aspirin and ibupropen, especially if you have a long history of heavy use. All NSAIDs can cause stomach pain. Two things can cause ulcers, H. Pylori bacteria and overuse of NSAIDs.
Ulcer pain is burning and most prevelant is this gnawing pain sometimes right underneath the belly button. It feels like barbed wire rolling around in your stomach.
Get a med like nexium, or another of this type. It will take a day or so to work, but is better relief for the pain. You need to have a gastro do an endoscopic exam on you if this continues. They have a tiny tv camera they run down through part of the small intestine, and photograph all parts in between. They gave me colored photos of ulcers in my small intestine and esophagus. Too many aspirin and Ibupropen for me, over a 25 year period.
