Re: norvasc

It all depends on how you are wired. I personally have had no side effects from it, and it controls my Bp. On the other hand there are others on this board that take meds that I can not tolerate. Sorry to say you will have to see for yourself, and don't rely on the experience of others.

Re: norvasc

Hi RC998, I take Norvasc and haven't had any problems. It also really controls my blood pressure nicely. The doctor prescribed me 5mg a day, but it lowered my blood pressure too much. So, I take 1/2 of that every day. I am surprised that small amount of medicine would work so well, but it does. It is a little pricey, but it's not any more than most of the other medicines I've tried. Good Luck!!

Re: norvasc

My fiance was on norvasc and he did have his 2 drinks at night but he also lost his sex drive. and he said he would rather die from his BP than not being able to ever have sex again. He had his meds changed.

Re: norvasc

I've been taking Norvasc for a few years now with no problems. My first doctor started me on 5 mgs then I changed doctors and the next one put me on 10 mgs but my blood pressure still wasn't low enough so I started taking Accupril and it seems to be working.
rc998 You've got white coat syndrome. Take your blood pressure monitor with you when you see the doctor and if the reading is the same as the doctor is getting you monitor is fine. I had white coat syndrome with one of my doctors.

Re: norvasc

My BP has been running anywhere from 158/192 to 138/90 for the past year or so.

My regular Dr said he just wanted to 'watch it' for awhile. I didn't know any better - I told him okay.

In the past month, both my OB/GYN and my Rheumatologist have asked me why I am not on meds for my BP - because it has been consistently high. I told them that my regular DR just wanted to monitor it. MY OB asked me , "monitor it...for what? until you have a heart attack?"

I told them both I would schedule an appt with my Dr and get this checked out. I went to see him last week - and my BP was still high. He reviewed the list of meds I am taking, to see if any of them could cause my BP to raise - and did not find any that would do that. Matter of fact -he said that one of the meds I am taking has a side effect of lowering your BP - but it hadn't with me.

He put me on 2.5 mg of norvasc, told me to monitor my BP for a week- and to come back to have my BP taken again in a week.
My BP did not lower one bit during the week I was on the 2.5 norvasc.

I went in today - the nurse took my BP -it was still high...so the doc decided to put me on 5 mg of the norvasc, and told me to come back in two weeks. He said he also wanted me to keep monitoring it every day.
I told the nurse that I was feeling 'jittery' and that my pulse was reading in the high 80's and low 90's. She said that that was normal on this medication - and it should go away the more I take the medication.

I hope it does go away - or I"m going to have to ask to be put on another med.

For anyone that has taken other BP lowering meds - are there any others that have worked well for you that I could suggest to my dr?

Thanks in advance for your help.
