Finally, Something That Worked

Hey everyone,

My neurologist put me on Pamelor to help break my headache cycle, and it actually seems to be helping. My daily headaches/migraines aren't nearly as bad. On a scale from one to ten: I've gone from an 8 to a 4. I feel so much better. After two years of failed medications I finally got one that works. Pamelor's an anti-depressant. It's very similar to Elavil. I haven't had any bad side effects either. Well, I just thought I should share my good news.

Good luck and continue to feel good!

Re: Finally, Something That Worked

I tried Effexor, but I didn't have any luck. I had some bad side effects from it. I was constantly nauseous. I did help with my mood though. I hope you have better luck with it than I did.

Re: Finally, Something That Worked

I've tried effexor and inderal. Didn't help me at all. The medication that has worked best for me is Axert. 12.5 mg, no side effects just relief. Inderal was very hard for me to get off of when I stopped taking it. I had alot of withdrawal from it. I recently started taking Topomax also. I think it helps but not as much as I would like it to. Because I believe alot of my migraines are due to peri-menopause I have started taking an all natural product called Brevail. I don't seem to have as many headaches and the positive aspect of it all is it also decreases your appetite! You can find information about it at www.brevail.com. Good luck and hopefully we can all find relief without all the medication!

Re: Finally, Something That Worked

I take atenalol (it's used for high blood pressure) in small 25 mg. doses 2X a day. I have tried the Pamalor and many of the other antidepressants but they don't seem to work for me. I still get a HA a couple times a month but on a 1 to 10 scale of pain (1 lowest) they are usually in the 3-5 range. I can manage that with Relpax and Vicoden.
Only problem I had with Pamalor is it made me crave sweets and I do not like chocolate, so I ate any other sweet thing I could lay my hands on. Gained 40 pounds in 3 years. Have lost the weight now that I have not taken it for several years and gave up on the antidepressants entirely. I think the atenalol is the best thing I have found in a long time and it's cheap too!!
