Has Anyone Used Benzamycin?

I was prescribed Benzamycin by my doctor, and I wanted to know how well it works. If you have used it or know about it, please leave a reply. By the way, do you rub it fully into your skin?

Thanks

Re: Has Anyone Used Benzamycin?

I was given a prescription for benzamycin about 10 years ago. It came in a jar and there was a little spatula I was supposed to stir it with. I also believe it was supposed to be kept in the fridge. It really dried out my skin, and I tend to have really oily skin. After it dried out my skin, I broke out terribly. However, this was my individual experience. I have heard some people have had success with it.

Re: Has Anyone Used Benzamycin?

It says that you should first wash with non-medicated soap. Should I just wash with a regular bar of soap then?

I've been using spectro jel for a while, but it's soap-free, so I just would like some feedback on what soap is best to use.

By the way, if my face feels greasy, i usually wash my hands with liquid soap, rinse my hands, and spash my face with water at times during the day, is this wrong? Should you only clean your face morning and night and leave it alone the rest of the time?

Thanks a lot

Re: Has Anyone Used Benzamycin?

Okay, I hope I answer your questions...

It says to wash with a non-medicated soap. I would recommend that you do not use a bar soap. They can be very drying to your skin, and the Benzamycin will be plenty drying. I would recommend that you use a non-soap cleanser (perhaps Cetaphil, or Purpose by Johnson & Johnson).

If your face does feel greasy during the day, I do not think you are causing it harm by splashing with some water in between your morning and evening washing. However, make sure your hands and your towels are clean! If you touch your face too much, you could increase your chance of breaking out.
Another option is oil absorbing papers. They can be used to blot excess oil in the middle of the day. I know Clean and Clear makes some, so does the Body Shop, and Palladio. They are pretty inexpensive.

Now, your moisturizer question. Try washing your face and using the Benzamycin for a few days without a moisturizer. If you find your face gets dry, I would use a moisturizer. After you wash your face (with your soap-free cleanser), apply an oil-free moisturizer (I use Oil of Olay's Oil Free Active Hydrating...). Let it "soak" into your skin, then apply your Benzamycin.

I hope that I have helped. Good luck!
