Sinus Infection

It all started the last week in August this year. It has happened on a number of occasions but it has only been the last week and a half that it has been with me constantly.

It started with a tingly sensation in the side of my face which then progressed to feeling swollen with a puffy eye on the same side with obstructed vision in the corner of the eye. I can normally persevere with it during the day but soon as it reaches tea-time it really starts. The other night when I was trying to sleep, I would put my head on the pillow and I would get stinging like shooting pains at the part of the head where I am lying on followed by pressure from the upper part of my mouth (Like teeth trying to push through) . My face would feel like it is burning on that side also. I have been getting nasal and throat discharge.

I have been to the doctor who has diagnosed me with severe sinus infection and has prescribed me with Amoxicillin (500mg 3 time daily).

Has anyone out there ever suffered really bad with a sinus infection whereas it felt like something seriously is wrong and also how long does it take to start feeling better, as I have been taking antibiotics now for just over 2 days and I still feel rather rotten.

Re: Sinus Infection

hey , i too also suffer from repeat sinus infections.... however i do not have the severe symptoms you display but i have heard many times that all of those symptoms can absolutely be present in a sinus infection. The reason why im replying to you is because about 6-7 months ago I had a sinus infection pretty bad and i was given erythromycin for it and it really never went away but what did i know?? im not a doctor right? so i didnt complain and just went with it and said well maybe its allergies.... well about 3 weeks ago now i had another severe sinus infection and this doctor put me on Levaquin for 10 days and it has completely changed how my nose and head feels!! The point is, amoxicillin and erythromycin arent the strongest of antiobiotics out there .... theyre well known for upper resp. infections but in my experience bad sinus infections arent even touched by them.... so if you dont feel better at all by day 5 of the antibiotics, call your doctor and discuss your options. Day 2 is really too soon to jump the gun, but it should help you feel better within the next 3 days or so! If somethin doesnt feel right call ur doc and discuss a med switch, and for my suggestion, ask about Levaquin GREAT MED.... gave me some strange insomnia but not anything to go crazy about GOOD LUCK
