Post Hydrochlorothiazide

Is anyone familiar with the side effects of this diuretic? I have been on 25mg. of this in addition to Accupril because any of the Beta Blockers, including ToprolXL have caused severe reactions. With this latest addition, I have noticed severe pain in upper right abdominal region in addition to problems with urination. I've been on a plethora of blood pressure meds, most either ineffective, or the side effects were so staggering, I had to discontinue them. I am beginning to feel like a guinea pig. Any info on these meds would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Hydrochlorothiazide

VL,

I don't think either of the meds is to blame. For the upper right quadrant pain, one should always first suspect gall bladder inflammation, stones or both. An echogram will confirm <and a Liver flush will CURE.> A good cheap test is no snacks after dinner and then a fatty breakfast of 1/2 pound of not-too crisp bacon, a couple eggs and toast with LOTS of butter...heavy cream in your coffee. If that breakfast doesn't have you HOWLING from waves of pain in a half hour, your GB is sound!

Problems with urination...bladder infection, maybe...just a stab in the dark here??

Accupril and HCTZ sounds like a good, effective combo if you aren't a "cougher" from the ACE inhibitors.

Re: Hydrochlorothiazide

Hctz does cause frequent urination, it says so on the patient info. Also, i wonder if it does something to the gallbladder. I say this becuz when i complained of the same pain in the right side of my stomach, my gp wanted to have my gall bladder checked. I suggest asking your pharmacist if gall bladder can be affected by hctz. It causes cholesterol to rise so why not affect other organs.

Re: Hydrochlorothiazide

Yes Vintagelady,

Abdominal pain is listed as one of the less serious side effects of HCTZ. I take it, but do not experience any abdominal pain. I do, however, make a few trips to the bathroom during the night. Since my blood pressure is now beautifully controlled with HCTZ in my combo of meds, I accept the inconvenience of bathroom trips. Besides, I spent time in a wheelchair after a stroke and believe me, I am more than happy to be able to get up and walk to the bathroom.
