Re: How safe is Promethazine

Where do you draw the line about you or the baby? I was missing out on work being sick which I can't afford to be out of it. Being newly married we have alot of bills and things are so tight. On the other hand if the baby was born with any problems I would blame my self every day of my life. Things are tough b/c with having all the other medical problems I am on other drugs, all of which are class b so I feel better about taking them. Due to the affect the drug was having on me I figured it was more than class b. I am thinking what I am going to do is take the drug but cut back on it. I did already b/c of the affect it was having on me. But I am going to try less and less. It is hard b/c I am one of those people that I have a mind set of I refuse to throw up and I refuse to eat if my stomach is nauseous. I am having a hard time fighting that and it is making things worse for me. So the dr put me on this drug. Like with the vinegar just b/c one time it made me sick I can't get past that to try it agian. Maybe I need a psychiatrist so I stop thinking about myself and more about the baby.

Re: How safe is Promethazine

there is a medicine that is safe to take and it is called Zofran...it is very expensive so insurance would probably be the only way to get it (it is around 700 dollars for 30 days!) but your insurance should cover it...talk to your dr. about it before you take the promethazine....zofran is sooooo much safer for the baby.

Re: How safe is Promethazine

Chrissi - I will talk to the dr about that. I have insurance and then the price won't be so bad. Thanks for letting me know. I have been cutting way back on that other drug for now. But lately it does not seem to be helping. Almost like my body built up an immunity to it.

Re: How safe is Promethazine

that is very possible...this happened to my friend and she was having to take ALOT of the med for it to work....that is not a good thing though.....if it isnt working stop taking it and tell your dr. it stopped working , no use it taking something unsafe if it is not even helping you....ask the dr. about zofran! much safer!

Re: How safe is Promethazine

Chrissi - Good news. I got the Zofran and insurance covered it. Good thing too that stuff is pricey. I just started taking it so I will see how it works. Hope it helps. I am so relieved now. And will feel 10x better if it helps me. Although for the past 4 days (knock on wood) I have been feeling some what better. Can I be over the worst of m/s at 8 weeks? I am hoping so.
