Re: Daughter suffering with daily migraines

You said she is having daily migraines. How long has this been going on? Days, weeks, months? I had a chronic headache that was classified also as status migrainous when I would look at the diagnostic form at my Dr.'s office. Mine was unbearable and lasted seven months. What and how much meds are used daily for the headaches? For example, aspirin, ibuprofen, prescription meds. Too many of these will cause a rebound headache. What about depression and anxiety? Who wouldn't have depression living with painful headaches everyday. That is how I felt. I developed panic attacks because I was always worried something very serious was wrong. As far as antidepressants go the tricyclics are suppose to be some of the best. Tofranil PM worked very well in my case. I began this after going through withdrawal from pain killers including, ibuprofen, aspirin and the prescription ones too. It was very hard doing this but it helped me break the cycle of pain and allowed a medication like Tofranil to adjust my seratonin levels and help with my panic disorder that arose from all of this. I was on xanax for a while and this too helped in my case. But I stress "in my case." The tricyclics are also good for chronic pain. There was only one Dr. here in Houston that gave me my life back and that was Ninan T. Mathew of the Houston Headache Clinic. Do searches on him on the internet he has many articles or papers out their on chronic headachs/migraines. I believe Dr. Seymour Diamond is a well known headache dr too.

Re: Daughter suffering with daily migraines

Hannasanna,

The Dr's not really explaining a lot seems kinda odd to me too but i have experienced it first hand. I have seen 5 different neurologists and i'd say three were just okay, one a bit better and one outstanding. Only the outstanding one took the extra couple of minutes to talk about possible triggers in a way the lay person would understand. He was also not a migraine specialists and took extra time to make sure he covered everything. Makes me wonder if some Dr's do things for so long that patients are just routine...just another number? Kinda sad actually. Maybe Dr's have to see more and more patients because their malpractice insurance is too high cause some idiot is sewing over a hang nail surgery that went horribly wrong and now the guy cant paint his nails black. It is a crazy world out there huh?

Re: Daughter suffering with daily migraines

Her headaches began in March with a 10 day migraine. It was her first one. At the beginning of her headaches, there was time in between them. Something like stress or over working her body would set them off. I'm sure there is a blend of severe headaches alternating with migraines. Its become a blur. I have to ask my daughter specific questions........like, rate the pain 1 to 10. What else are you feeling........thats in order to tell if shes having a severe headache or a migraine. In the beginning she started out with ibuprohen and tylenol. Then we moved on to floricet and viciden. She doesn't like how she feels with the stronger meds so she takes ibuphroen...

She has moved onto axert......It worked at first but its not working anymore.........We are going to start her on Xanex for stress. In two weeks we have an appt. with our regular GP. She is a wonderful Doctor who listens, and cares personally for each patient. I think she will help us to get onto a routine with meds. I am going to talk to her about all that everybody has shared with us about the different routines for medications for the migraines.
I will also ask our Dr. about the corolation between epilepsy and migraines.

I really appreciate all of you sharing! THANKS!

Re: Daughter suffering with daily migraines

I started getting migraines at 13. The very first one i had was so bad i had a minor stroke. My doctor put me on Ultram and it worked the best for me. Yeah it knocks you out for a few but when you wake up it's gone. I'm 19 now and i don't get them as much.

Re: Daughter suffering with daily migraines

Hi Pinkgloss,
I've never heard of Ultram. I know with one of her headaches we went into the Dr. to get a short for pain. Cant remember what it was........but I know she was out for a few days.
