help with horomones, I'm freaking out

my background-- been on Diane 35 for awhile now and it was wonderful, but I started getting mood swings/my body felt out of wack so I quit. Guess what? Now my skin's breaking out (I'm getting cysts, which I NEVER got while on bcp). I would try Diane 35 again except for I had to buy it off the internet which is shady and I'd much prefer doing that type of thing thru a doc..but I'm from the US. Boo.

So here's my question: Do you guys think I should ask for Yasmin thru a gyn? or do you guys think I should go to my derm? Unfortunately, it's either one or the other, Kaiser doesn't cover yasmin...I asked. The reason I'm asking is b/c my acne is PURELY horomonal and I was wondering if there were any other drugs out there similar to Diane 35 which hopefully would produce similar results.

What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

(EDITED--- feel I should add in that I've been on Accutane and tons of antibiotics, all of which wore off)

Stardusted,

Look into a drug called Spironolactone; it works really well for men and women. Often times it clears people who have not been cleared by Accutane. I wouldn't take it long term, however; if you can try to get relatively clear, and try to wean yourself off of it via diet change, liver flushes and colonics. Look up posts by Sweetjade1.

I know exactly how you feel. I am in your position. I was on Ortho Cyclen for all my high school years and had only one pimple here and there. I went off the pill and started breaking out. So, I went on Yasmin and was on that pill for a couple years. I gained alot of weight and overall felt like crap on the pill. So I just recently went off it in June. Since then I have been breaking out alot.

I totally agree with Karl2 in cleansing your body, ESPECIALLY because you have been on antibiotics and Accutane. I would definitely recommend doing colon and liver flushes. If I were you, I would try not to go on any more drugs. Believe me, I know its hard because I am in the same place. I even went to the gyn and got sample Yasmin packs and a script so I could go on if I couldn't take it anymore.

However, I am doing a detox now. Colon and liver cleansing - modified - not to the extreme with the crazy olive oil and grapefruit juice. You can detox your liver and colon without using those methods, it just takes longer and I am willing to wait the few more months. So I am steadily cleansing. My body feels better than ever before and I've lost over 15 pounds. My acne is a little crazy right now because of the detox and toxins coming out through my skin. But, things are looking up and I expect that within the next few months I will start to see the benefits of what I am doing. I also go to a naturopathic doctor and we are doing hormone testing. I may go on natural estrogen enhancing herbs depending on my results. By the way, I have been steadily cleaning for about a month and a more rapid cleaning regimine for the past week or so.

Well I'm a bit different than the others

I'll take any drug that will clear my skin

Spironolactone is great! And my endocrinologist says it is one of the safest drugs in existence if you are in good health. No risk to the liver or kidneys.
My dermatologist doesn't prescribe the pill but I've heard of ones who do. They usually require that you get a gyn exam anyways. I had a gyn prescribe Yasmin for my acne. Luckily it doesn't have as high a risk of serious side effects as Diane. I did have some nausea, so I've switched to Desogen and it is also very good.

Spironolactone-- is it good or bad to take long term? Will the effects of it wear off?

Whatever is in Diane 35, WORKS for me, (therefore, Ortho Tricyclin does not work at ALL) I heard that's what is in Yasmin... So why is Yasmin better for you than Diane? Do you think my body would be less out of wack on Yasmin?

So I guess this is what I need your help on, comparing what's in Spiro, Yasmin, and Desogen in comparison to Diane 35.
