Re: How safe is Promethazine

2fast....glad to hear that you got the zofran...it really is a lifesaver....
im glad to hear that you started to feel better on your own too.!...
it very well could be that your m/s might be starting to subside...i know mine did for the most part around 8 weeks....it sneaks up from time to time, but gone for the most part (knocking on the table just in case...lol)
i am 12 weeks now, and feeling pretty good for the most part.
good luck, and feel better

Re: How safe is Promethazine

ducki979 - Oh I hope that I am over it. Thanks for letting me know that I can be over it. I am going to be praying that that is the case. I was getting slightly worried but Thursday is my first ultrasound. Then maybe I can feel a little better about where things stand. Although I know I still feel pg but it takes little things to make me worry. Thanks so much for giving me hope.

Re: How safe is Promethazine

did anyone in here mention that promethazine is the generic for phenergan? but i looked on a website and this is what it said about the drug and babies, just for a little 411...Phenergan is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether Phenergan will harm an unborn baby. Do not take Phenergan without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are planning a pregnancy (promethazine is the generic for phenergan)

Re: How safe is Promethazine

Actually, phenogren, or promthazine, is safe in pregnancy, it is classified as a C because of the class of drug it is associated with, and becasue not enough research has been done on the medicine. The thorazines i think it is. My husband and MIL are nurses, and give promthazine to pregnant women all the time, i also see a dr who specializes in maternal fetal medicines and she said it was fine also. But it is very easy to build up a tolerance to promethazine and it won't work anymore. Last year i was very sick and taking 150mg of it a day and it wasnt' helping, normal does is about 10-25mg. But anyway zofran is a better drug it does work better. But zofran contains phenylalanine which in people who have certain diseases it doesn't get processed correctly and can back up in your system and cause serious problems, but you would probably have to be takign ALOT of zofran to have that happen. Becoming serioulsy dehydrated during pregnancy, or malnutrioned, is a very serious problem. And most likely poses more of a problem than takign phenogren would cause.
