Question about pills

Hi...

First off let me tell you that I am 27 years old and I have had Anorexia Nervosa for eleven years. Right now I am struggling ,but I am doing *much* better than I was before. Now, I have a question: Can you be addicted to diet pills? I take them even though they make me feel horrid. It's the disease, I know. I'd like to get off of them and get back to normal life. I can't sleep and if I sit or lay still for any amount of time I seem to shake and/or cramp up. I just want to know if you can be addicted to them and if you can just go "cold turkey" or if you should taper them off. I'm also taking other medications for my anorexia and depression.

Re: Question about pills

I tried going to the eating disorder board and they didn't seem very pro-recovery. I posted there a couple of times, but I don't know.

The diet pill that I am taking is Dexatrim Results. It's over the counter. I don't think that it is very harmful, but it really kicks my butt. My dietitian said that it is "amphetamine-like" so I really don't know. Maybe I can do some research about it on the internet. I know that I should stop taking it, but I just can't seem to.

The meds that I am on... let me see... there are eight of them and so I don't always remember all of their names. Fosamax for osteoporosis, Topomax for seizures, Effexor for depression, Abilify, Wellbutrin, Provigil, and some med for sleeping that doesn't work. Something's missing in there but I don't remember the name, but that's most of them.

Thank you so much for helping me out. Oddly enough I posted this also on the "weight loss" forum thinking that they would know something about diet pills and they said the same thing. I shouldn't be in that forum, but I just went there to ask that question and then that's it, I'm gone.

Thanks!
