Possible Eyelid Dysfunctions!? Please Help me...

Heres my condition:

- Mid 2002 I started out with fatigue and my eyes felt 'cold' then it settled into a condition where I would always perceive 'the 2 sides of my nose as being transparent and separate' *Can someone please understand/relate to that?!*.

- Since mid 2002 I've felt that under my left eye lid it's very congested, sticky and cluggy. When i shut my right eye and just leave the left eye open it struggles to keep open all the way properly as it feels there is something under the eye lid keeping it from doing so.

Doctors are baffled and I've tried a wide range of medications from liviston, tissue salts, doxycycline tablets, Horseraddish Tablets, Nasonex, Decongestants, Claratyne, Tobrex eye ointment, Antibiotic drops as well as seeing an optometrist, nose specialist *to check if turbinates were at fault*, eye specialist *nothing wrong with my eyes* as well as even trying eastern medicine in the form of Acupuncture.

I was hoping that maybe my problem was a 'meibomian cyst' as perhaps a cyst has been weighing down on my left eye causing the sensation under the left eye lid and the weird perception of my nose....but I don't have a lump under my eye lid *perhaps the cyst is embedded too deep to be felt conventionally???*.

I'm really frustrated and withdrawn and would really like to know what 'eyelid dysfunctions' or possible 'meibomian problems' any of you may think I have so I can speedily correct this and be happy and healthy.

Thankyou.

I would maybe have an MRI done on your c spine and upper thoracic area to detect possible nerve problems(compression of?)one thing that pops into my head regarding the weird sensations and perceptions that you are having is possible sympathetic nervous system damage possibly caused by a herniation of a disc or bone spurs that may be compromising the SNS.the sympathetic chain actually runs along side the outside of the spinal column(not the actual cord)The reason I bring this up is that I have had similar eye weirdness that IS caused by damage to my SNS during a spinal cord surgery last year, and wow, I have had some really strange and bizarre occurances happening throughout my body because of it.i kind of know what you are referring to when you describe the eye nose thing.i think this bears some looking into.I would talk to a good neurosurgeon regarding this possibility.I don't think a plain neurologist would have as good of an understanding of this type of damage as a NS would.Good luck and please keep me posted as to what you find out.K?marcia

Re: Possible Eyelid Dysfunctions!? Please Help me...

Thats pretty interesting but I can't recall ever having any kind of back injury or any other notable injuries that could have affected the sympathic nervous system.

I hate having something that is so weird and that can't be cured.

I honestly feel like if an incision were made in my upper left eye lid and some sort of 'suction device' were implemented then this problem would go away as it feels like a build up of gunk up there and no one seems to understand this and know how to help me.

I'm seeing a doctor that specialises in eyelid problems next month. Hopefully he'll be able to help me as I've become very exhausted of being so depressed over this.

Re: Possible Eyelid Dysfunctions!? Please Help me...

Hi all, its me again.

I saw another eye specialist at the beginning of the 2005 and they agreed that my eyes are fine and in mid 2005 I had a MRI Scan done at a main hospital in the city yet its results were normal.

I no longer think my problem is a result of a 'build up of material' or some sort of congestion under my left eye lid which has been causing my perception of my nose as, "seeing both sides as being separate and transparent, which is especially more pronounced when observing the right side of my nose (which, to me, appears on the left side of my face.....)" because I've realised that along the left side of my face, especially around my left eye *mainly above, i guess*, feels somewhat 'strained' and not as free and easy as the other side of my face. When I just open my right eye and keep my left eye shut the effort and result of that is fine and normal yet when I shut my right eye and try to just keep my left open it often feels like a bit of a strain and doesn't feel as if it opens all the way or as easily as my other eye can by itself. When I just have my left eye open I can feel the skin just about my left eye *a little to the left as well maybe* feeling strained and perhaps even slightly sticky.

As I've said before on this board I've seen all sorts of specialists and doctors and tried all sorts of drops, sprays and tablets as I've thought that this has been all sorts of things ranging from hayfever to neurological...

This all began in mid 2002 and as 2003 began with this thats when I became stubborn and depressed and as much as I've been trying to snap myself out of this withdrawn and depressed state that I've lulled myself into I feel too bogged down in this state to be able to. Over the last few months I've been trying to get back into reading *which I pretty much stopped myself from doing soon after this started as I was being stubborn even though I can read fine despite my 2 shadowy transparent nose halves* as since I did that I've felt myself get increasingly unmotivated and often 'feel stupid'.

I'd appreciate any input from anyone here on the board as I feel like I havn't really been myself in years and as much as I try to intellectually snap myself out of this whole situation I seem to keep being dragged back into it.

Thankyou.
