Scared about performance

I have a big music performance coming up soon. I am real scared. Anybody have advice to help calm myself before during and after the performance. It is going to be a solo too. All by myself. I am typically a nervous person. I don't even like to speak infront of large groups for intense fear of criticism and attack.

If you have an anxiety disorder, maybe a very small dose of a valium type med would help if you're not overly sensitive to them. I know I can take a small dose of ativan and be almost normal, aside from feeling very slightly sedated and calmer, I can perform just as well as I would have, maybe better. If you don't have an anxiety disorder, you need to play as often as you can. It's normal to have stage fright, and the more you do it, the less frightening it is every time.

I undersand! I have 2 degrees in music and I have suffered a great deal with anxiety in performance. Either get a beta blocker from your dr or try calms forte by hylands or Bachs rescue rememdy. the last 2 can be found at a health store or grocery store. blessings to you on your solo. I know how hard it can be!

valium would help a lot but take some before to get used to its effect

beta blocker meds are also used a lot by professional musicians, especially for solos, these basicly slow the heart and reduce blood pressure, there are many, lopressor and inderal are 2, they reduce the physical but not mental problems from anxiety and stress

they are also used by golfers to steady themselves for pressure puts

get some of both from doc and take a dose beforehand and practise the music as an experiment

also remember it will help relax you if you breathe deep and slow and avoid holding your breath, also look at the audience and smile, dont pretend they arent there
finally the audience wants to like you
