My doc has me on Aldara (5%) to treat basal cells. She said there would be redness, swelling, irritation, scaling, etc, and that all this would be a good thing that meant it was working. But three weeks into treatment and there's nothing. I'm following her directions (which was to pinprick the packets so I could keep using one) and using as much as will absorb 3 times a week. Anyone else not had any side effects?
Yes. I had the same thing. I wound up having surgery.
Now I'm trying Efudex. It's like Aldara, but supposed to be stronger. I just started, so can't say yet how it compares.
I used Aldara for 3 wks for a basal cell spot on my neck. The scab has now come off and the spot is healing - I go back for checkup in a week. Do they rebiopsy at some point after to make sure it worked? I didn't have any irritation or pain from the Aldara - just a huge scab that finally came off.
My dermotologist was going to do surgery on a basel cell I had on my nose. When he saw how nervous I was when the day came he put me on Aldara.After 3 months it is completely healed. Mine was to the point where I had a hole in my nose. Had no irritation from it. WHAT A GREAT DRUG!!!!
