Re: In Pain, HELP!!!

Thank you for your response. I woke up this morning and had the urge to go to the bathroom and all that came out was a lot of big clots of blood. I've never seen anything like this before or even heard of anything like this. I called my doctor and I was told to go to the emergency room. I am getting ready to go now. Wish me luck. I am crying and I'm hysterical.

Angry Re: In Pain, HELP!!!

first wow, glad (and sad) to know im not the only one.... im not sure of the age of anyone but i am 28 and wondering if anyone near my age has delt with this? I always though it was an older persons thing....

My nightmare started in Janurary... after i came home from 3 months in a hospital bed with a heart infection. (Which i first blamed for this problem, lying in bed so long) first thing i tried was the moist wipes then it was on to prep h, then minirol loi and vasline ointments, enemas to keep it clean, cotton balls, everything. Its been mmisirable and discomforting and paoinful.... ASt first i was told by one doc it was hemeriods, which DO run on my fathers side. and they will probably come and go... yea big help. Then in Sept after 2 weeks in the hospital for something else i talked to a digestive doc... that when i first learned the word "fissue" (i feel you on the embarressing moment of having someone look down there) he gave me a powder Cyclolax? (generic, not sure of spelling) im supposed to use this is water to soften my stool but how much softer can it get. I fear going to the bathroom to... the pain has been so bad i scream or nearly pass out, no joke. sometimes it bleeds sometimes it doesnt, but it always burns, 24 hours a day (except when i take a percocet and asprin for my migranes, which makes the pain go away...dont know which is worse) It seems that when 1 heals a new one open right back up somewhere else around that area, so the sycle never ends, even though im (thinking) doing everything right. If i can heal how can i prevent? i rarely strain cause i know the rush of blood will cause them to open up, i dont wipe hard but sometimes frankly the crap is just to big, im talking logs. my grandparents have been frank with me about there experiances and have said i should try a supoository called calmol and get more fiber in my diet, (i eat rasin bran every morning) im debating on trying fiber pills i cant drink the liquid ive tried. Ive lost hope in doctors and im not sure what type of surgery can be done. My gut often feels like ive got indigestion all 24 hours. i try to stand as much as i can, assuming sitting puts more pressure on the area same with in bed (is the heating pad idea good or bad, cause ive had a heating bad under my blanket on my butt for a month now and nothing.. I though ice would be more helopful <yes, ive tried, it wasnt>)

i dont know of any bad habits, other then the occasional cig that ive read can cause problems down there, that might be causing this (tight pants etc..)

so if anyone has any more ideas (and i know there been a lot on this board) please im listening. I just need to watch certain things cause i do have a kidney transplant (06/01). other then that....its been a year since these fissues started and its just becoming unbearable..
Thanks
AJ

Re: In Pain, HELP!!!

On Sunday I went to the emergency room as my doctor suggested. I was very embarrased but I couldn't wait to find out what is wrong with me. I cried when I left the house, thinking I won't be coming back. This condition is so bad. Anyway, I first had blood work done and then the exam. I also received an IV since I was a little dehydrated. The exam showed that I have a cut right on the anus that is why I have the burning and stinging. They took a look inside and saw an internal hemorrhoid with blood in that area. My diagnosis at the ER was "bleeding internal hemorrhoid". I was told to buy stool softeners and a spray "Dermoplast" to numb the area where the cut is. They told me to follow up with my doctor this week. I am still bleeding since Saturday. I forgot to ask if they know how long the bleeding can last like this? I get the urge to go to the bathroom quite often and when I push nothing but blood with clots comes out. I haven't eaten much since I was on the IV so there's nothing to come out...but the blood and clots are coming out. Is this normal for this long? Has anyone had this? I don't think I'm going to my doctor because I don't need a referral so I will go straight to a specialist, but in the meantime, can anyone answer my concern? It's going to take me a couple of weeks or after Christmas to see him. Thank you.

Re: In Pain, HELP!!!

madcrazy,

I know what you are going through. I first developed fissures about 14 years ago (I'm 34), probably due to a lousy diet and lack of fiber. They came and went, and never bothered me very much. Then this year, I had a lot of medical problems (sinus operation, adverse reaction to a drug that caused nerve damage and vasculitis), and I really ripped the fissures big time. I did all the stuff you did -wipes, cotton, suppositories, etc. This went on for a couple months, until I get fed up and went to see a surgeon. He gave me a drug to take called Diltiazem, which helped, but I would still rip the fissure if I had a big bowel movement, so I got into a cycle of re-injury.

These chronic fissures are really miserable things... the pain is something else. I can't work out at the gym, because I'm afraid of aggravating the condition even more.

I haven't tried the Glycolax/Miralax, but I will ask my doctor about it. I have to take 3 stool softeners a day, or the bm's are just way to hard, and painful to pass. It's so sensitive down there.

So I've elected to have the surgery done to correct this. I've had enough. Apparently, it's a 10 minute outpatient procedure, and the recovery isn't very bad. Everyone that has had it done says there is instant relief, although the fissure still takes a few weeks to completely heal. I think I'm just too tight down there. Probably genetic, and aggravated by stress and diet.

I'm going in on Thursday, so I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

I would recommend you take 2-3 stool softeners a day, and get lots of soluble fiber, like apples and melons. Avoid dairy and red meat, and don't lift weights. Keep taking the Glycolax, and take warm baths twice a day. Talk to your doctor about getting some Diltiazem -it's a great drug, but it doesn't really cure the fissure, it just helps with the pain during BM's. Try this for 6 weeks or so, and if you're still miserable, I would go for the surgery. Too many people live with this for years, when it can be easily corrected.

Re: In Pain, HELP!!!

I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery. You are so brave but at the same time, you must be relived that you're going to get this over and done with. It's amazing how we take our health for granted when there is nothing wrong with us. I always promise myself that I will try and take better care of myself, but when you're feeling good, this is the last thing on your mind. I have an appointment to a specialist after Christmas so I will find out more of what is going on with me. I am really concerned about this bleeding. It doesn't look too birght either. It's almost purple in color. I must say, it's less than it was but it's still there. I haven't been eating much so when I go to the bathroom it is very loose. And how about this: ever since I started bleeding, I feel better down there as far as pain goes. I am so confused. Any ideas?
