Re: Adult Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy Surgery

Had my tonsils out today. So far, so good. The worst thing since the surgery (and especially right after) was the tickle I had in my throat from the tube they put down it during the surgery. It has felt like I always have to cough...but coughing still doesn't relieve the tickling feeling. It's quite uncomfortable.

Swallowing (so far) hasn't been that bad at all. I've had about 4 ice pops, two bowls of chicken soup, and lots of sips of water. I even have been able to swallow pills! I know that it's only going to get worse though. Well, I'm trying to enjoy the first three days at least.

Oh, I've been taking tylenol with codeine and an antibiotic. So far, no nausea at all...but I think it's becasue I've been eating and drinking. I'll keep up the updates.

Re: Adult Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy Surgery

Dixie, you're doctor is a sadist! I was on Roxicet which is a liquid Oxycodene and I still felt pain. A Lot of it! I was like some of the others that felt it wore off after 2 hours. I take Darvocet for occasional bad headaches and I don't think that would have been enough. I also don't react well with Tylenol 3. All of these meds are class 3 narcotic meds and all are codiene related. I wish your doctor would listen to you when you say that Darvocet isn't working well for you. I did have a mild drug dependency thing going with the Roxicet where I had one rough day of adjustment. I was on it for about 10 days and tapered off it and the first day of tapering I had some very mild shakes when I was well past my usual dosing time. They were gone the next day and I proceded to just use the Roxicet the next night.

My surgery was Dec. 6th and now I have very little scabbing in my throat. Like a really thin coating of white that's hardly there. It still gets sore and feels like a dry throat but the pain is managed by tylenol alone (which I call candy since it's not a great pain reliever for me). My only real complaint is that I don't have a normal sense of taste from the back of my tongue. It's torture to smell great food, know you can eat it and then have it taste Horrible!

I see my doc on Wed. and I'll let you guys know what she says about everything.

Re: Adult Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy Surgery

Well, sleep isn't all it's cracked up to be. I accidentally set my alarm for 11:00 am instead of 11:00 pm and I slept right through the time I was to take my next dose of pain meds by 1-1/2 hrs. OUCH! I woke up and the right side that I was sleeping on was throbbing! My ear and my throat were killing me and very swollen. I've since taken my pain meds and they are starting to kick in but my stomach is so upset and I'm so dizzy. Well, I have to go lie down - I've double checked my alarm this time.

Dompiz-
You are right. Sleep is not all that it's cracked up to be. I've only been able to sleep for 1 1/2 hours at a time so far, but tonight was different. I took my pain meds at ten and then laid down. I just now woke up. I slept for 3 hours. The left side of my head feels like it's being poked with daggers. The bad part is I can't take my meds for another 30 minutes. I think I may be cheating on that part tonight.

YEOUCH!! This hurts!!

Okay I have topped myself in the pain dept. Well I took 2 celebrex and 2 darvacets and thought I was feeling much better......WRONG. Well about 4 hours later I got heartburn which is weird because I havent' ate much and never get it. My mom went and got Tums and I took them. Well then came the nausea.....HORRIBLE, terrible nausea. So my doctor gave me these suppositories for nausea and I used one. STILL feeling horrible and on top of it the suppository caused me to feel very drugged and dizzy. After an hour my mom called the pharmacy and they said it should have already kicked in and to do another one. YA RIGHT!!! So I ended up vomiting in the toilet and bawling the whole time because of the pain. Then I couldn't blow my nose because of the surgery so I had the acid vomit nose thing..........horrific. I am praying to God that day 9 will be much much better than today. Now I know I need to drink because I'll be dehydrated but am scred to because I might throw up again and my stomach is still a little sick. PLEASE let tomorrow be much better than today. I hope that yalls recovery is going much smoother than mine!!!!!! Thanks for letting me vent here, it's nice to be able to write to people who actually understand somewhat of what you are going through.
