Hi Mern:
Glad to hear that you're feeling a little bit better! You've got a long way to go! As I said before, back surgery does take a while to come back from. Sounds like everything is normal at this stage.
As far as the pulse-like feeling....hmmm......not sure exactly what you are describing. But I'm sure I've had it! ha ha! Before my surgery, I had what I called "bubbles" in my leg. You could actually see these little muscle spasms/twitching in my leg. It didn't hurt, but was totally irritating. They ran up and down my leg. I was told it was due to the muscles trying to protect the damaged nerve. Did you have these symptoms before surgery? (I did). And then it stayed with me for about a month after, then gradually started disappearing.
Even though I have some sort of reminder daily that I've had surgery, the surgery did work for me. Both legs were totally weak, had muscle spasms, bug crawing feelings up and down the outsides of both legs, no ankle reflexes, big toe weakness. All of these things did go away after surgery. My legs feel strong again. I did (and still do) my own re-habbing. Stretching and ALOT of walking, even though at first it was rough-going. I kept at it, little by little.
I live near Buffalo, NY, so I can't walk outside right now......too cold and snowy. On good days, I still try to get outside. That's another thing that helped in my recovery. Alot of walking, and also weight loss (60 pounds). Don't give in to this back crap

. But for now, do alot of resting. Again, the back takes 6 weeks to stabilize.....so take it extremely easy for at least 6 weeks. Then after that, you'll always have to be careful. Sitting properly (and not too long), use correct lifing procedures and everything else they taught you. I still don't lift anything over 10 pounds. By the way, I had my surgery on March 13, 2001.
Take care,
Sue
