Question to those of you who are on the pill to help with perimenopausal symptoms

Does anyone who is on a low dose pill for perimenopausal symptoms find that they feel horrible during the week that they take the placebo (non-hormonal pills)? I have anxiety so bad I am ready to jump out of my skin. Just wondering if anyone else goes through this and if so, what do you do to deal with it?

Thanks for any replies!

I went throught that when I took Loestrin. I was hardly able to go two days before starting back on the hormone pills. I'm now taking Mircette which only has two days placebo and five days with a very miniscule amount of hormones that is taken during the 4th week.

Which brand are you taking, and do you still experience symptoms while taking this particular brand? I'm still having symptoms and had to add a hormone patch along with the bcp to help alleviate some of the symptoms. One symptoms that has been an annoyance is that lightheadedness. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Question to those of you who are on the pill to help with perimenopausal symptoms

I am taking Lo-Ovral. I started it a few years back when I first started having hot flashes, insomnia and anxiety. It worked great. I went off of it in March of last year and I started to have the hot flashes, then insomnia, and now all kinds of symptoms within about 3 to 4 months. I just started it last month and have only just finished my first pill pack. It seems to have taken care of the hot flashes already, but I felt so anxious this last week on the "placebo" pills, I felt horrible!

Last time I was on the pill, my Dr, gave me the Climara patch to use during that week since I would get a really bad headache 24 hours after I finished my last active pill. I would keep it on for the week and take it off when I started up a new pill pack.

Lo-ovral is monophasic so it is the same formula for all of the pills except the placebo pills. Since it is like this, my Dr. says it keeps everything "level" and that is why he likes to prescribe it for perimenopausal patients. This way, you don't get a lot of ups and downs.

Once I was established on the LO-Ovral before, I didn't experience any symptoms at all (I should have never stopped taking it!) I am hoping after a few months back on it, I am back to "normal". I have heard that liightheadedness can be caused by some pills. You may want to try another brand. Good luck!

Hi Mary!

You may remember that I just started the Lo-Ovral last month. I just started the placebo pills on Sunday, got my period today, and so far I'm not having any noteworthy problems. I woke up a few times last night but was able to fall right back to sleep. I've felt a tad anxious once or twice but it passed without much of a thought. Nothing like the trouble I was having before.
I'll let you know how I do the rest of the week on them.
