Re: Eczema

I have eczema that flares up badly in the spring and summer months. I've used a steroid cream for years and it always made the skin with eczema lighter than the rest of my skin. I'm not sure if that has to do with the actual eczema and scratching, but it could have something to do with the steroids.

Now, though, I use either Protopic or Elidel and that helps a lot. Elidel has been proved safe for children as young as two years old, and the best part is that it's not a steroid. Protopic also isn't a steroid, but works for moderate/severe eczema. Both have to be prescribed by a physician.

Re: Eczema

Hi. My baby had very dry skin on his face that persisted and the dr said it was eczema too. He gave a prescription for 1% hydrocortisone cream which helped for the first few days, and then it did nothing. I decided to try using my hand cream instead and it worked! It is Vaseline Moisture Therapy -- the one in the baby blue bottle.

Re: Eczema

I have a child w/ the same problem. We finally found that creamy vaseline..must be creamy..comes in a tube applied 2 times a day works. You can mix just a tiny bit of 1% hydrocortizone if you feel you must for the 1st day or two (it spreads it more evenly). When bathing we use minimal soap. We found this works after trying every other suggesting until he was 6. It can be sometimes hard to find and you'll go through 2 tubes a week for the 1st week. After that...you will find that a once a day application may be sufficient. Their skin ends up gorgeous!

Re: Eczema

My 13 month old has it... I don't bathe him every night; just every other and dont' make the water too hot... I use an all natural bath oil and prescription all natural lotion. We also do not use any chemical type cleaners, personal care items (lotion, shampoos, etc.) or laundry detergent. It has helped tremendously.
