Are you addicted to Zopiclone?

I was on Zopiclone (7.5mg) for about 2 1/2 years taking 2 pills a night, I figured i could just go off and on them like Pepsi! But I couldn't do it, I needed more and more, I went to all the clinics and doctors to get them. Then finally I went to my Real Family doctor and he put me on a 2 week weaning process which got me down to 1 per night, and then after that I was on none and No withdrawal symptoms. The way that he did this was he prescribed serquel(100mg) per night with the zopiclone, plus 2 amitriptaline(20mg) and all of a sudden within two weeks I was totally off the zopiclone as the Sercquel had taken its place, as well as the Amitriptyline. Now what you may be thinking is I’m just exchanging one drug for another! But that’s not true, because you see Sercquel and Amitriptyline are non addictive drugs, they contain nothing that will trick your brain into wanting more and more, and you still sleep at night eventually whenever you want you can stop taking the Sercquel and Amitriptyline whenever you want, you could take these 2 drugs for a year and have no addiction. That’s just my 2 cents, and it worked for me, may not work for you but at least you can say you tried.

Hi Jason, I am very glad to hear that you came off of Zopiclone safely. I am in the medical field and i cant really say that i have encountered anyone with an addiction to this particular med. If i may ask, what was the doctors reason for d/c this med? Did he/she replace the zopiclone with another drug? Just curious. But nontheless Congratulations!!!!!!

Yes, the case was there were to many doctors and to many medications, I have stopped taking all but 2, Effexor and Sercquel. I was seeing a urologist as I had a kidney disease he had me on morphine and ciproflax, my neurologist was for my daily migraines, he had me on Amitriptyline, imitrex, and percocet, my family doctor had me on Anti-Inflammatory, zopiclone, Tylenol #3, serc, and Effexor, then I became agoraphobic and couldn’t leave my house so my physiatrist had me taking the Sercquel, ativan, and clorazapam. I was a mess, so my physiatrist right away took me off the Tylenol #3, percocet, morphine and Insisted with my urologist to complete the surgery on my kidneys, then the doctor took away the imitrex, the ativan (gradually) and of course the zopiclone, which led to me not needing the serc for vertigo. And all the while he Increased my Effexor, was still taking the Sercquel but he upped that dose, took the clorazapam away, which left me with effexor(300mg) sercquel(150mg) and the Amitriptyline (as needed for the headaches). And after all that I am very impressed with myself and my physiatrist for getting me off all these pills, with no withdrawals and no relapses. I can walk tall now and don’t fall over when I walk and I am on regular outings for about 2 hours at a time. So all in all the only things that I take now are Effexor, Sercquel, Amitriptyline, and cigarettes. I don’t touch booze, never had, nor have I ever tried any street drug! so that’s the story, LOL

Jay, Wow!!!! With all those meds how could you even stand up and walk????? That is nuts!!! The meds you were on are pretty heavy duty and totally have the potential to basically keep you "out of it".

I am a chronic pain sufferrer and at one time my doc had me on Topomax and Amitriptyline 25 mg. each (took them at different times, was never on both at the same time) i took them at bedtime and just that low dose would totally knock me out and i would be tired all day! So needless to say i wasnt on them for very long. Being in the medical field i cant be groggy, i have to be alert and on top of things. I am in Emergency Medicine and as i am sure you know, most of the time there is no time to even think. So being groggy would leave room for poor judgements and error.

So you didnt have a problem at all coming off the narcotic pain relievers? If not, you are very very lucky. So have you had the surgery on your kidneys that you need?

I am very happy for you that you have gotten off all those meds and are getting your life back! Life is so precious, you should enjoy it! Talk to you soon!
