9 year old son with ADD

My son is 9 years old and was diagnosed with ADD when he was 7. Since that time we have been on 4 diffrent meds and none seem to be working for him. We have tried Ritalin, Danphetamine, Strattera and he is now on adderall. I thought Strattera was going to be the one that worked and he was on it the longest but started having problems taking the pill. He is now on his second week of adderall and the teachers are telling me that his attitude and emotions are changing. I just don't know what to do or to try next. Does anyone have any opinions or helpful hints? I feel like Im letting my son down!!!

Re: 9 year old son with ADD

I've been told more than once that if the drug isn't working, the child doesn't have ADD/ADHD. My 9 y/o is on Adderall XR and his behavior at home is unbearable, even when he takes his dose. I'm going to take him off, I'm going to take my 7 y/o off too. I'm worried lately about side effects.

Re: 9 year old son with ADD

My son is 7 and was diagnosed at 5 with ADHD. When he was 6 he was additionally diagnosed with ODD (Opposition Defiant Disorder). He has been on several medications, including Sraterra, Risperdal, and Ritalin. My concern is that the medications don't work. I have had my son evaluated and re-evaluated, and have sought second, third, even forth opinions. All say he has has ADHD and ODD. What I don't understand is why the medications don't work if he has these conditions.
