Re: 9 year old son with ADD

My son was given Metadate for AD(H)D with tics and it sort of helped but not like it should so we kept investigating and found he has Asperger's which is part of the autism spectrum. He takes Wellbutrin for the tics and lots of behavior modification. He is doing well.

What I don't understand is why the medications don't work if he has these conditions.
Because the biological "illness" aka lack of brain chemicals connection of these conditions cannot be measured, tested or proved. They are mainly just theory. Behaviors cannot be confirmed to exist solely because of brain chemistry.

Re: 9 year old son with ADD

My daughter is also add/adhd with odd as well. She will be seeing a specialist to narrow it all down in another week. Adderall didn't seem to do anything for her. She is now on Straterra. It seems to have a more calming effect on her, but she has side effects such as tiredness and stomach aches. She's been on it for almost a month. I'm hoping the side effects simmer a bit.

Re: 9 year old son with ADD

The meds probably aren't working because they haven't tried the right meds yet. My son has been on tons of differents meds...some work and some don't. A couple have worked better than others...some he has outgrown the effects of. It's usually a trial and error thing.
