Help! What's wrong with a friend?

Hi everyone

First, off I'm really an n00b when it comes to this kind of stuff so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway I have a friend who was sick since almost two weeks and she doesn't seem to get better and I'm kinda worried. Well her best friend told me that she has some kind of stomach virus but she told me the other day that she probably has the flu + breathing problem.
So stomach virus + flu + breathing problem? I read about a new kind of stomach flu but does it cause breathing problem too? Isn't the stomach a completely different body system than the lung?
No, she does not have asthma and yes, apparently it's the more serious kind of breathing problem. We were talking two days ago on MSN and suddenly she started to complain that it hurts to breath and that she feel dizzy etc. The next day she had to go the hospital (for the second time since she was sick).

Oh yeah I think I should mention that this isn’t the first time she complained about breathing problems. In fact she sometimes also complains about chest pain too and she said that she doesn’t know what’s up with her.
However I did saw her taking Aleve and some kind of antibiotic (yes, prescription drug) once and I’m pretty sure she is still taking it. When I asked her about the drug, she said her mom (not doctor) asked her to take them. I know her mom used to be a pharmacist but forcing her daughter to taking a combination of pain medicine + antibiotic (probably without doctor’s approval) doesn’t seem right to me. I don’t wanna question her mom (since she obviously doesn’t) but that would explain why she is getting sick that often. I mean I know taking antibiotic over a long time will weaken your immune system.

So anyone know what’s wrong with her? She definitive isn’t too happy to be sick especially considering how many days she was already absent from school.

Thanks

Welcome to the boards. In my opinon your friend should see a dr and soon. Breathing is one of those things that we can not do without.
This could be a lot more than the flu.

Re: Help! What's wrong with a friend?

Hi

Thanks for the reply

anyway she is back today. I'm going to talk to her when she gets online. Didn't think school is a good place to talk about that kind of stuff.

Does anyone know what amoxycillin is? That's the stuff she keeps taking with Aleve. I'm not saying anything but could her problems be caused by drug abuse? Is there any reason someone should take both amoxicillin and aleve at the same time?

Amoxicillin (sp?) is an antiobiotic, related to penicillin.
