Re: Nissen, anyone?

Fasting would make the sensation go away for sure, why do you ask?

That scares me -- not being able to vomit. The other ways it can come out --- if you get the stomach flu and can't vomit won't that pressure undo the fundo?? Also, you get diarrehea anyway with the stomach bug plus the vomiting so i don't see how going the other way only will take care of it.....or if you should get food poisoning or eat something that disagrees wouldn't you want it out ASAP rather than wait for it to go through the intestines to come out? I am afraid my gastro doc is going to suggest that for me since I am getting worse on meds.

Re: Nissen, anyone?

Blasterboy- While I don't know all your circumstances, I'm surprised any doctor wou;d begin to consider a fundo yet. Before my doctor even mentioned it, I was on 60 mgs Prevacid, then 80mg Nexium, then back to Prevacid. I've also used Compazine, Phenergan, Carafate, Zantac, and Reglan to try an control my reflux. The amount of tests I've had is rediculous- 2 CT scans, 2 pH probes, a gastric empty series, Occult Blood, Endoscopy, and tons of blood work. Only after all that are they even considering a fundo, and they want me to see a counselor first. I would definately look into trying combinations of drugs before surgery. Surgery is a major step and it doesn't seem like you have tried all other options first.

Re: Nissen, anyone?

I've tried Lansoprozole and Omoprozole and both work to about the same level. I'm on an ever increasing dose and considering I don't Drink Alcohol, Coffee or Soda and don't smoke, I wonder what other lifestyle changes I could make. I really fancy my odds at 90% success rate.....

Anyhow I'm due for an Endoscopy next week and then assuming that confirms the GERD then my surgeon wants to perform an Anterior Partial Fundo'. I prefer the idea of this than a full Nissan and frankly my symptoms aren't bad enough to tempt me into a full Nissan, but they are surely bad enough to encourage my along the lines of this partial. Bearing in mind that 2 NHS gastro consultants also encouraged me to have this operation I think that I'm not unduly heading into this procedure, given that NHS care is social medicine (as opposed to a private consultant who might be more money enthused.

But I do appreciate your advice BLondy, as you've made me check my thinking on this. Regarding the Counsellor, I guess this could be due to your unsure ness on this procedure and range of symptoms (some people with similar symptoms might be afflicted by addiction issues with Alcohol, bulimia etc,) your doctor is ensuring that he is been thorough with his diagnosis.
