This is all very interesting. I also started getting horrible cystic acne when I was 21 (I am now 26). It started on my chin and quickly spread to the right side of my face. I had a huge cyst on my right cheek for about 2 months before I finally went to a derm. He injected it, it went away, it came back, got injected again, went away, came back...did this about 4 times before it finally went away for good. I still had pretty bad acne on chin. I started on ortho-cyclen about a year later, and my face cleared up dramatically within a few months. I was left with pretty bad scars though, mostly deep red scars (not too many pitted ones). I stupidly went off the BCP and about a year later another huge cyst developed very close to where the old one had been. This one was just a stubborn. Had to have it injected about 8 or 9 times, and drained a few times as well. I started on Spiro and back on BCP. (This was this past summer) The spiro has worked wonders. My face was clear of acne just 2-3 months after starting (and much much less oily). But, i was left with horrible red scars. I underwent 4 Aurora laser treatments (cost of $2500). Save your money!! I did not see any improvement whatsoever. So, now my skin is clear but I still have really bad red scarring. I'm not sure what to do about it????
Anyways, I really wish someone (a doctor) would do an in-depth study about cystic acne and why it occurs so frequently in people in thier early 20's with not much history of acne. BTW, if anyone has any ideas to get rid of red scars, I would really appreciate it. Take care and hang in there.
