Is it possible that you have TMJ? I have a small case of it myself, and if I chew alot of gum for an extended period of time or sleep in my head in a funny position I will wake up with my jaw sore, and it will last a few days....just a thought....Good luck and God bless!

Re: Can Nerve Damage in the Jaw be serious?

The only time I have heard of nerve damage in the Jaw/Mouth was when a tooth was worked on. You didn't have an absess or anything? I'd check with some type of natural specialist. Like a chiropractor that does acupuncture or a message specialist. Sounds to me you need to get some circulation going or you have an infection in that area. Maybe a dentist could take an exray to rule out an absess first. Good luck!

Hi there about jaw

Hi there well I have been having this problem since the first week of July I was hit in the corner of my mouth and I heard a crack, but since I had no insurance of course really couldn't go to a specialist. My face feels numb and almost paralyzed but doesn't look it if that makes sense.I finally did go to an emergency room and well since I again have no insurance they treated me like it>Oh and my jaw feels like there's a knot in there. If u could give me some advice I would really appreciate it

Re: Can Nerve Damage in the Jaw be serious?

Hello. I have had the symptoms you describe along with severe pain and numbness in my face. It is a throbbing feeling, and it hurts along both rows of my teeth, into my sinuses,in my temple and eye, down deep inside my ear,in my throat and glands,my eye waters and my nose runs, the roof of my mouth hurts and my tongue and lip goes numb sometimes and swells. Something as simple as a touch or brushing my teeth or a cool breeze blowing on my face will trigger an attack and it is the most severe pain I have ever had. It all started after I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted,it will sometimes damage your nerves in your face and it is a condition known as Trigeminal Neuralgia. The Trigeminal Nerve runs along your face and branches into all the areas I have just described. I am currently taking Neurontin 600 mg per day for it and when the pain flares up I am given Tylenol 4 With Codeine (which is 1 gram of codeine per pill and I take 2 at a time) It will make you unable to talk at times when it flares up. Research this condition if you continue to have these symptoms. Hope this helps.
