Re: Eczema

Besafe20, i also feel my pediatrician isnt concerned about his Eczema. She i think is taking it too lightly. I am taking my baby on tuesday to see a dermatologist. I hope she can recommend something which can help and also assure me that over the counter steriod creams are safe to use.

Thanks!

Re: Eczema

Has anyone heard/used PROTOPIC, ELIDEL creams for Eczema? They are non steriod creams.

Re: Eczema

I just heard this on the news the other day. Elidel causes cancer in animals and now they are investigating further. I tried a sample of elidel on my son's face when he first got the eczema and I think it bothered him or burned or something. Trust me... I have been using the steriod creams off and on my son for a year and he is ok. The dermatologist will tell you how to use it so that you can gradually wean him off it. Once he is weaned off it there is the likelyhood the eczema will come back but when it does it is much easier to treat. My sons will flare up from time to time but when it does we put the cream on and it goes away instantly. It made me so mad cause my son's face looked terrrible and he had it on his head too. He would scratch like crazy and he was only 2 months old. My pediatrician wasn't concerned at all and didn't even suggest any medicine or suggest we see a dermatologist. All he said was "oh yup hes got some eczema going on, no big deal." The best part was that when I saw the dermatologist he prescribed me an antihystimine to give my baby for the itching. Once the eczema cleared up we didn't have to use it anymore.

Re: Eczema

Thanks again besafe20!

I guess once i see the dermatologist i will have more answers for my baby. My pediatrician also has the same attitude and it makes me mad. I asked her if i should take him to a dermatologist and she said no its not necessary. Its normal for babies to have eczema and it will go away on its own. Anyway, lets see what the dermatologist says!

What soap, lotion you use? How often do you bathe your boys?

I have been using Aveeno oatmeal bath soaks and vaseline lotion and i use Dreft for his clothes and now even my clothes. I have been bathing him once in 2 days.

Re: Eczema

I bathe my son with cetaphil body wash and use cetaphil lotion aftwerwards. The dermatologist told me to use these since it is so gentle. He also told me I can wash my son's head with baby shampoo but no other products. I have to bathe him everyday since he is an active 13 month old but if your son isn't crawling then there is no reason to give him a bath everyday, plus it dries out the skin. Using water that isn't very hot helps a lot as well.
