Thanks. I'll try some asparagus steamed with some oil and viegar.

I finally had to give up on broccoli. I love broccoli, but it doesn't love me. My sinuses have been great for a long time. They started stuffing up, and were getting worse and worse. I cut out the broccoli, and now my sinuses are back to being calm, and not bothering me. Life is hardly fair, is it?

I also have those box seats myself. That's where we watch the majority of our games. We record everything else and watch the games live. May I ask what team you follow? Certainly do hope you are not in the enemy camp(LOL)
I am a fan of the Florida Marlins (soon to be known as the Miami Marlins if they can get "stadium" funding approval from the state). Are we baseball foes? Do you have a picture of a marlin hanging upside down in your basement with an X through it?

I feel as though my mind is sharper. Like I was in a fog and it suddenly lifted. I seem to notice the world around me more. I feel happier, less depressed.
This probably sounds crazy but it's the best way I can describe it. Do you suppose insulin can control these feelings? Or maybe just a coincidence?
Insulin is an extremely important hormone for our bodies. I think that, the more that our bodies become resistant to insulin, there are all kinds of symptoms, which get increasingly worse as our insulin resistance gets worse. My worst symptom was difficulty breathing. For about two years, if I consumed too many carbs, at night, I would have problems breathing all night long. Then, it get worse and if I consumed too many carbs during the daytime, I would have problems breathing that lasted more than a day.

I can now eat a limited amount of carbs (in this small portion diet), at night, and all it does is make me feel better. I also have far fewer breathing problems.

Update: I am now able to consume more carbs at night without breathing difficulties and without a negative effect on my blood pressure

Glad to hear of the good BP readings. How are the new meds? Are you having any side effects from them?
I am starting to have some mild, increased heart rhythm problems. I am "slowly" cutting down on one of my other meds, in hopes that there is a conflict that might be causing the increased rhythm problems.

Update: Avapro was causing me to suffer from increased heart rhythm problems, especially at night, so I stopped taking it.

Bye, and keep up the good fight yourself

Thanks. See you at the ballpark!

What a shame. I love the stuff myself. It along with the asparagus is a daily staple of mine, Untill the "asparagus season" is over. Can't tolerate the canned of frozen varities. At least the brocolli is around all year. Do any other veggies affect your sinuses? I also like brussle sprouts. I know, all my friends think I'm weird too.

(LOL) No the fish are safe in my house. I was afraid you were a cubbie or cardinal fan. Hope I'm not offending anyone else out there. All the enemies are in the NL centeal div. In fact we were pulling for the Marlins both times they were in the series. Especially against the Yankees. You have a pitcher from our area, Josh Beckett? I think that's his name. I sure would love to steal him from ya.

Information like this amazes me. I would have never believed food could have such an influence on our health. I was a disbeliever of anything but meds for HBP untill I started making changes in my diet. My good news for the week. I was able to cut one of my meds in half and actually see lower BP.

Hope that helps. I took Avalide ( avapro + HCT) for a few days last year and had palps and increased pulse. Switched to Benicar HCT and they went away.

Marlin's pitching looks very good this year. They will hopefully make the playoffs.

Great news on you being able to lower both meds and BP! Hope you are still going strong!

It has been about seven years, and 16,000 blood pressure readings. That's at least six BP readings every day, week after week, for seven long years. Most of that time was spent with frustration at not being able to get control over my blood pressure, regardless of how many changes I made to my diet, and my environment and to my meds.

I've also got advanced heart disease, so I figured that I was just doomed to have blood pressure and rhythm problems.

Many changes helped to lower my BP, and to reduce my heart rhythm problems, but I could never get the big kahuna of blood pressure improvements.

Until now...............

I can't believe how well my blood pressure is doing. This "insulin resistant" diet, and the Avapro, have really made a huge difference! My blood pressure stays down ALL day long, at night, when I get up in the morning. All the time!

Now to see if these improvements will improve my other heart problems.

Regards, and hoping to hear more good news about you!

Still hanging in. My hubby has joined me in "the" diet. He was recently diagnosed with sleep apena and doc wants him to lose at least 30lbs. He is doing great, not even sneaking cookies at night like he used to. He eats a little more at meals than I do but he weighs about 100lbs more than me

This is GREAT NEWS! It is so depressing to do absolutely everything right and still see those high numbers. I too tried everything. Diet, exercise, every kind of BP med available.

The one thing I kept overlooking was sugar and bad carbs. Even when I lost weight I still ate starches and sweets, just less of them.

My BP is doing great with 50% less atenolol. My cardiologist is very pleased.
I am seeing numbers from 118/64 to 130/70.

What other meds are you on besides the Avapro?

Regards,
Cass

I've forgotten all about this thread. I noticed you had the last post. Can't allow that!

I know several people with sleep apnea, and all have a weight problem. I have also read that sleep apnea and insulin resistance can be related problems.

Now that hubby has been on "the" diet, has he seen any improvement in his sleep apnea, or in how he feels?

I had to stop taking the Avapro. It was giving me increased heart rhythm problems and increased chest pains at night. Since I stopped taking it, I no longer suffer from the increased heart rhythm problems and increased chest pains.

I am on verapamil (ccb) and accupril (acei). I also use a nitro under my tongue when I want to get a sudden increase in blood pressure down fast.

Ahhhhhh! It feels good having the last word.
