ACNE CONGLOBATA victim

Acne Conglobata is a very rare, but most severe type of acne. People are rarely affected by this type of acne but the ones who are, have a hard hard time.

I started to get acne around 7th grade, only mild pimples. I wouldn't worry about it and use OTC products that worked well. Then around beginning of my 9th grade i started to break out pretty bad so i got Proactiv Solutions that worked really good. I went few months without acne then I started to break out again. I used Proactiv again and it worked a little bit but i think i over used it to make my skin super sensitive. So I went and used other OTC products, changing products here and there (i think made my skin go crazy) then i just kind of quit. im coming to a end in my 3rd quarter of my 10th grade and I've been getting acne conglobata / severe cystic acne on my forehead and sideburn area. It was gettting HUGE and i've never seen something so gross in movies. Its been well over a month since i've had it and i've been to the doctors. They know its bad but they only give me anti-biotics called CEPHALEXIN thats not REALLY concintrated on acne but bacteria. Other people have gotten Accutane for milder acne then mine but i dont know why they dont give me it. Im sure my acne is by far one of the worsts around. But i've gotten use to the look cuz i see it everyday, its the PAIN the i hate. I can't sleep at night, in the morning it burns like no other. What it feels like is.....ONE HUGE bruise on your forehead/temple area that aches and throbs every other second of the day + a concintrated sting/cut like feeling in random areas of the affected area every other second as well. im on a STRONG dose of PAIN KILLERS that helps but it still kills. I havent been to school in...over a month and im sure im going to FAIL all my classes and probally will have to re-due them next year..unless the school gives me some kind of acception because of this situation. Before this semester, I'm a A student and do well. So maybe they will let me slide..but im not worried about that right now lol. I can deal with school later..this just..man..iuno...ima go see a DERM in about 2 weeks. I had to get a referral from my doctor because my insurance isnt super. i hope when i see the derm, he gives me accutane or tells me to go get a surgury lol...this is serious stuff..if u want to know how bad it looks, go to g o o g l e and type "acne conglobata" and click IMAGES. look for a pretty bad picture of this acne and imagine it on my forehead/temple. yea..thats how bad.

TELL ME IF U SUFFER WITH SEVERE CYSTIC ACNE OR CONGLOBATA, or if u USE TO SUFFERE FROM IT! AND WHAT U DID!

Re: ACNE CONGLOBATA victim

Well my acne isn't as severe and I am on accutane. When I looked through the booklet they gave me to read at the derm about accutane there was two people in that booklet with acne just like yours (i looked up a picture of acne conglobata) There were before and after pictures and I was shocked at how accutane cleared their skin completley. If they don't put you on it immediatly I would ask for it if I were you. It feels good to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and accutane is helping me reach that light. Good Luck!!

Re: ACNE CONGLOBATA victim

Hi Salt,

I can only imagine what you are going through. I think one of the reason they may not want to give you Accutane is because it can stunt your growth somewhat. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that is why. I agree you should focus on getting well, because if you ignore this, or hope for things to resolve themselves of their own accord they may not. The sooner you stop the acne the sooner you can halt further damage to your skin. Make sure you make your case very clear to your dermatologist. Good luck, and keep us updated.

Re: ACNE CONGLOBATA victim

I would say you may have to change derms. Maybe another type of antibiotic would work. However I had cystic acne and I would say you need to consider Accutane. You need to find a top dermatologist in your area. Ask around and find a good one they arent all the same. I went to just any dermatologist and he did not know much about acne. My mom did not know what to do because acne was not in her family. It really messes one up mentally. This lead to frustration on my part. You must find a top rated derm, to analyse what you have and the best approach, to stop scarring. Is acne congoblata genetic?
