need insomnia help

How many of you out there experience insomnia and what meds and at what doses have you found to work the best? I need help!
I've tried too many and still only get two hrs. sleep. Tell me what works for you please. (tried Xanax, Klonopin, Halcion, Ambien, and Lunesta)
Currently I'm weaning off of Zoloft 25mgs. which I've been on for a month. But I've had insomnia for a month. I take 15mg Ambien everynight.
I have a very rapid heart beat , 120 (checked out by cardio and couldn't find anything wrong---gave me Topril)
I am going to go crazy soon with this no sleeping! In fact the cardio said I probalby should see a psychiatrist to discover the underlying cause.

Re: need insomnia help

I took Trazadone, which is a different type of antidepressant used mostly for sleeping. It totally knocked me out. The only thing I didn't like about it was it gave me the "munchies" and I gained a little weight, but not much. You might ask your doctor about it.

I switched to Xanax for sleep and it works really well at 1 mg. Doesn't make me gain weight either. I tried Ambien and it worked for awhile, but then didn't seem to work anymore. For me, benzos work the best. It sounds like you might have an overactive thyroid. Did you get it checked?

oh yeah, the thyroids been checked and it came back normal. Can tests be wrong? I tired Trazadone last night and woke up with a pounding heart after only 15 mintues of sleep.

Re: need insomnia help

Buspar gives me the Munchies real bad too!!!
Have you tried Lorazapam?
Ambien and me did not get along at all. I would zonk out but if I woke up to use the bathroom I could Not get back to sleep to save my life.
Benadryl works too but I wouldn't recommend it with the HB>
I have the same thing a steady 121 bpm with no explanation. I am on Buspar and Beta Blockers.
Valume helps as well but you need the ten mg not the 5

Re: need insomnia help

What were your thyroid numbers? If you dont mind that is. The problem is that doctors and labs rely on very old standards. Such as, old standards say anything over 5.5 is hypo. New standards by the American Endocrine doctors association say anything over 3.0 is hypo and anything 2.5 or over needs medication.

And docs also dont check the correct hormones. You can NOT get a reliable thyroid health reading by TSH alone. Must have TSH, Free T3/T4/ Total T3?t4 at MINIMUM.
