Hi JJ,

Cinnamon is available in 500mg capsules. We buy ours at Walmart. Hubby takes 2 capsules - 1 AM and 1 PM. Reducing sugars and taking cinnamon, he lowered his trig's from 300 to 150 in 3 months. There are two types of cinnamon. There's the real thing, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, and there's C. cassia. You want to take "C. cassia", so look for that when you're shopping. C. cassia is less potent. Cinnamomum zeylanicum is more potent and is in the camphor/laurel family. Camphor Oil from the cinnamon tree is extremely potent!

Re: Are these number oK?

Thanx so much Frankie for that info., as I had no idea they were sold like that. Is there any problems taking something like that with high BP pills? I take Avapro, 150 mgs. Another thing I blame on statins, as I always had very nice BP, 120-125/70-75. After 3 months on Lipitor my BP started rising more and more, then I developed GI problems. I went off of it and things settled down, then they shoved me on Baycol, OH JOY, that did a number on my muscles big time, and the BP took off again, but stopping the Baycol didn't return my BP back to normal.

For once, even my dr. blamed it on the statins, and told me not to take anymore, as I was just not able to tolerate them. Too bad he left town for another practice, only guy that worked with me and would admit some folks just can't handle them, except for hubby's cardio man who took him off of them due to rotten side effects.

Oh well, why complain, it is over and done with, so now, on to trying another approach, and hoping for the best. Thanx again, I will look for them at Wally world when I am there monday...

Hi JJ,

I'm not aware of cinnamon causing any interaction with BP meds or causing any side effects at all.

Are you taking CoQ10? One of the nice side effects of CoQ10 is it can lower BP, as well as help to undo some of the damage done by statins. My husband takes 200mg of CoQ10 daily, but higher dose are used depending on the amount of muscle damage.

Re: Are these number oK?

No, I am not taking the Co Q10 as of yet, but have seen alot of talk on here about it. Hubble takes it, I believe, and swears it is helping him alot. So far my muscle pain has quieted down alot, but I am going to look up the cinnamon stuff. For about a year, my numbers have been basically borderline, but my last test was not good, but the dr. thinks it was a fluke, as it has been steadily going down each time. Have to go in June, so we will see how they are then. She also told me I could try green tea or Niacin, but not both, as then we wouldn't know which was working.

I'll admit, I am a little leary of the Niacin, but want to try the tea. Maybe when I get to WalMart monday, I will pick up the cinnamon and some tea and see how it goes. Just watched 20/20, and there are people who swear by the tea, as does a friend of mine. Oh well, time will tell. Time for this ole lady to get off to bed, lots to do this weekend. Take care....
