Beta Blockers - Feeling Sorry For Myself

I am so miserable on Atenolol to say the least. Got down from 50 mg to 25 w/no problem. Going lower is difficult. Has anyone had any experience from going from one Beta to another without a problem, or, are they all the same? I feel like my entire GI tract is on fire, from the pit of my stomach to my tongue. I feel like I'm breathing out medicine as everything feels inflammed. I also go through bouts of intense body heat to chills. Very depressed thinking about having to be on pressure med as reading about all of them, a good one is hard to come by. All in all my pressure on Atenolol has been great. Except for occasional spikes. If not beta blockers, what could be taken that keeps heart rate in check and b/p in good numbers? - So miserable, and this is Mother's Day. It's very hard to smile.

Lola,

It is my understanding that many of the CCB,s have some sort of Beta Blocker in them. When I used Verapamil it lowered my heartrate thought not as low as Atenolol and I liked it until I got a splitting headache up the backside of my head.

Re: Beta Blockers - Feeling Sorry For Myself

The first bp med I took was Tenormin(beta blocker). It was hell on earth! I had so many side effects. It took 3 months and 3 doctors for one to FINALLY say~you need to get off this stuff. The truth is beta blockers are not for EVERYBODY. I took Accupril after that~it worked well but gave me "the cough". I am now on Diovan and although the side effects are few,it has not lowered my bp to the good range. When they tried increasing it,my pulse went crazzzzyy. It seems like the right med is a quest or journey and I have not reached my destination yet so to speak. I do know this...I will NEVER again take a beta blocker
