Re: Biopsy results today

Hi edmason,
I had my surgery on April 7 in Portland at Maine Med.. I'm not sure where you will have yours but I had total confidence in this hospital and the staff. I never had any pain (not counting the catheter). Lots of problem with incontinence and I'm not even thinking about erections yet but it's still early. If I can answer any questions for you just let me know.

Re: Biopsy results today

Hi Ed,

I agree with your family doctor! Go to Johns Hopkins or someone who does this surgery all the time. Get Patrick Walsh's book Surviving Prostate Cancer!

DO NOT rush into this to keep a date with destiny. If you read enough posts on this board, you will see that many recommend going to a specialist. My local uro performed about 12 a year. I went to Baltimore to Dr. Carter who performs 5 a week.

The initial focus is to terminate the cancer. However, if you are not careful, the cancer may survive and the lingering incontinence and/or impotence can be devistating!

A previous post of mine tells a story of a friend who went locally. A year later the cancer was back, he was incontinent and forget erections!

THINK LONG TERM !

Re: Biopsy results today

I was undergoing the same situation you're in two years ago. Had RRP on June 16, 2003, and still think it was the right decision. I wore a pad for a good while (several months), and then one night, I forgot to wear one and didn't have any leaks, so I decided I could make it without a pad, and did. Even now, I'll have a couple of "droplets" on occasion, but that might be happening even if I'd never had surgery. (I'll be 68 next month.) Also, my uro didn't even want me to consider viagra, levitra or cialis until 5 months later. I didn't let "it" rest in the meanwhile, however. I'm still being patient...but not as patient as Dr. Walsh suggests. Went to a different uro this week and he gave me a prescription for Muse. I've ordered the product and hope to have it early next week. It ain't cheap, but it still may be the best buy I've made in a while!! Congrats from me, too, on your great PSA. "Hang in." Things will get much better!

Re: Biopsy results today

OOPS! I posted to the wrong page. Meant to post to Proboy's comments. However, upon looking over your post and replies, I fully agree with ItzMe2. I would still have chosen surgery, but would have headed for Johns Hopkins, or someplace similar, as fast as I could go. Dr. Walsh's book is a powerful suggestion from ItzMe2, too. Good luck! Everything will turn out fine, but severe anxiety on the part of your wife is very natural at this stage. My prayers will be for both of you.
