Lightbulb 4 months

Four months since prostate surgery.First PSA was undetectable. It was taken in Mar 05>Dr scheduled next one for Sept. My question is almost 4 months since surgery,is it too soon to worry about not getting an erection ???? Or should I just hang in there pardon the pun also minor leakage still, mainly when tired or when getting up from sitting position or lifting something a little heavy. This normal for this time frame after surgery?? usually one pad lasts me 24 hrs. thanks p/s always hear stories of guys who say "hey I never leaked at all" or " 2 mons after surgery rock hard erections" Cmnon after going thru this I find that hard (again no pun intended) to believe,,,, thanks,,,,,, Proboy........

Re: 4 months

Hey Pro,

Congrats on PSA test! Yeah, four months is probably early for erections typically (I was trying with cathader still in). I am 3 years post and I worked at it constantly. Made it a daily habit with or without my spouse. I would suggest taking some viagra and or shots to accelerate the process. Viagra did not work for almost a year. I now take a small slice of cialis and have no problem, and have gone without.

Walshes book says to "be patient..no be very patient"! Dr. Carter at Johns Hopkins told me that improvement can take as long as four years. You do not want any atrophy from lack of use. So take shots or viagra to get things going asap.

Re: 4 months

I was undergoing the same situation you're in two years ago. Had RRP on June 16, 2003, and still think it was the right decision. I wore a pad for a good while (several months), and then one night, I forgot to wear one and didn't have any leaks, so I decided I could make it without a pad, and did. Even now, I'll have a couple of "droplets" on occasion, but that might be happening even if I'd never had surgery. (I'll be 68 next month.) Also, my uro didn't even want me to consider viagra, levitra or cialis until 5 months later. I didn't let "it" rest in the meanwhile, however. I'm still being patient...but not as patient as Dr. Walsh suggests. Went to a different uro this week and he gave me a prescription for Muse. I've ordered the product and hope to have it early next week. It ain't cheap, but it still may be the best buy I've made in a while!! Congrats from me, too, on your great PSA. "Hang in." Things will get much better!

Re: 4 months

Proboy--- thanks for the replies I forgot to mention that I'm 53 yrs old. Also one other question.Did any of you after having surgery experience a loss of sex drive? I seem to have lost some,, LOL. Before it was pretty strong but now just doesn't seem to be anywhere near what it used to be, just wondered if this a typical reaction to going thru surgery and dealing with incontinence and impotency.Anyone else have the same experience ??? thanks ,,,, Proboy

Re: 4 months

Re: Loss of Sex Drive...Sometimes I think so, then sometimes I tell my wife that it's a good thing I have to go the extra mile to be able to have sex since the operation. Otherwise, now that I'm retired, I'd probably bug the dickens out of her, wanting to have sex so often. As your healing continues, and as you get more attentive response from your lover in the right direction, I feel sure desire will present itself. Now, don't allow me to confuse. "The Wanting To", and "The Wishing You Could" are two different subjects, as you know. Right now, you're may be feeling a little less desire simply due to having a lot less confidence in your ability. Expect all this to change for the positive.
