Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

I'm in shock!!! The doctor actually told you not to use Xopenex more than three times a day? K gets Xopenex twice a day no matter what because it helps keep her under control but when she's having trouble she can get every two hours that's 12 times a day. You really need that Pulmonary Specialist, I think you'll start to see an improvement if you can find a doctor that will give you the medicine's you need to help your daughter.

I'm sorry but Xopenex only three times a day is baloney. I know better and my daughter is 2 1/2 so they can't tell you it's because of her age!!! From what you've described on the board here my daughter 1 1/2 years ago sounded just like yours. It does get better, I promise but you've got to find a doctor willing to help you get there. A good pulmonary specialist will definately help.

Since meeting the other parents online with children that have asthma and knowing first hand how hard it is to get doctors to take you serious and actually help, I have seriously thought about going back to school to be a Respiratory Therapist so I can help educate other parents and learn more for my own two children that have asthma.

Shelly, I'm here for you if I can help with anything. God Bless You!!!

Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

Thank you so much. Last night she actually had a good night. Tomorrow is her surgery. I am so scared about it. I called the new asthma specialist 3 days in a row with no answer. I feel like this is helpless. And I liked this doctor. I am almost out of the nasonex and I called him because the one night Melanie got so bad she was wheezing and crackles and I asked him what I should do. Should I give the xopenex or what. I asked if this could be from her acid reflux? And he was supposed to call and tell me what we need to do with her lab results. That was on friday he told me he would call on tues. Now it is wed. and I have no answers and no help from the doctors. I feel like I am at the old asthma specialist again. No one ever calling back-no asthma action plan, nothing.

Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

I doubt that the acid reflux is causing all of these problems. It is probably not helping but probably not the main cause. That's just my guess, I have know way of knowing that. I can only go by my experience and with K the acid reflux was contributing to the problem but not the major factor. Our major factor was sinus infections/ear infections and a couple of times I'm pretty sure her attacks were allergy related.

Good Luck with the surgery tomorrow and let us know how it goes. Remember nothing to eat or drink after a certain time, for us it was midnight but I'm sure the doctor told you all that. That was hard to because K wanted a drink every time she woke up and I couldn't give it to her. I'll be thinking about you guys tomorrow.

Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

By the way, if I didn't say so before I think the surgery will help. K has had three sets of tubes so far and we are planning on getting another set because the last ones have fallen out. They really help. She had her adenoids removed too and everything went fine.

PS. - Make sure they give her a breathing treatment before the surgery. That's what my Pulmonary doctors highly recommended before K's surgeries.

Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

the surgery went well. Melanie has had a pretty rough day. She was complaining of pain and nauseated all day. I think the Tylenol with codeine made her throw up. She barely had anything in her stomach. She was up all day and crying most of the day. I hope this helps. She is clear right now and I still need to give her the pulmicort. A lot of people are telling me to get her to a pulmonologist. I guess that is where we will be going next. The surgeon said everything went well. Her throat and voice box looks good. He doesn’t feel her problems are from acid reflux, and can not guarantee the surgery will help her asthma. But he did say I should see an improvement. The fluid in her ears were very thick and hardly moving and her sinuses were draining pretty bad. He said with this surgery it should start moving better. Well see-hopefully this is all she needs.

By the way I did give her all her treatments prior. How long did her tubes stay in and how do you know when they are out. I really thought it was acid reflux causing her problems, but maybe it is sinuses and allergies. They did a bunch of allergies and they came back negative. The asthma doctor said he was going to do some skin testing in a couple of weeks.

They said she has allegies. They can tell from her nose and her eyes, but what to I have no clue. Can allegies make sinus problems?

Thank you so much for helping me
god bless you
