can't sleep?

Does anyone have problems sleeping and what have you found to help?
I have tried too many things and I still have chronic insomnia. Currently I take 50 Zoloft and 1mg clonazapam(klonopin). THis has been going on for 3 months now---way too long. Plus, is it common to still have stomach distress after being on meds this long? I don't feel that the Zolfot is helping much, probably need to change. What would you recommend?
Thanks for any replies.

Re: can't sleep?

i also have cronic insomnia and have found that longterm help from tablets is very limited some get help from tranxene, an antidepressant that causes drowsiness sometimes when just taken and this doesnt seem to create a tollerance much, its not available where I am

re zoloft, i would ask doc about upping the dose as yours is small, often a higher dose will get it working, if still no help after say 2 weeks then maybe swap to another antidepressant

an antidepressant that works for you should help with the sleep

I recently had an extremely stressful and scary "trigger event" which lead to constant health worries and panic attacks. It went on relentlessly for months and got to the point where I would just lay there half-awake all night or wake up after only a few hours and could'nt get back to sleep.

Finally, I went to the doctor and got a prescription for Vistaril (Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride). Vistaril also goes by the name of Atarax. Anyway, I take one of these every night about an hour before bed and it knocks me out C-O-L-D and I sleep in till noon!. Vistaril is an antihistamine so no worries about getting addicted either. It is also used to treat anxiety disorder.

Ask your doc about it.

Re: can't sleep?

Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm willing to try anything. I'll have to see what my doc says. I am so tired.
My luck it won't work since nothing else has. I need to be more positive I know, but 3 months of very little sleep and too many side effects is getting to me. The only benefit is that I lost 25 lbs.

Re: can't sleep?

I had horrible chronic sleep deprevation for years to the point of where I became delusional (and didn't even know it). The ONLY thing that works for me are to take 150 mg. Trazodone, 3 mg. Xanax, 40 mg. Lexapro, and 1800 mg. Tripletal. For the past four months I have been getting 9-10 hours of blissful sleep. I can't tell you how much better I feel. I still have other issues not related to sleep, but the sleeping part is wonderful!

Also, you may want to go for a "sleep study". I think mine originally started out as "sleep apnea" and I didn't even know it. Or maybe it's the combination of both. I've had my CPAP machine for a couple of years now, but it was really the meds that helped me sleep.

Good luck to you!
