I Am Only 31!!

I am only 31 years old and my spine came back as -3.5, also i just had a bone scan and my chest was black, both feet and my entire spine and shoulders. I am waiting for the "results" to be read, but.... the elderly lady doing the bone scan was shocked. I am very scared. I just had surgery to fix a ruptured disc in my neck, there are 4 more bulging, and my T3 is fractured with wedging. I have had no accidents and i am a homeschooling housewife. Can someone tell me what to expect?

Re: I Am Only 31!!

Hello,
I'm sorry that you have so many medical issues and are so young. I'm surprised that your surgeon didn't have you take a bone density test before your nect surgery. What kind of surgery did you have? Anyways, you will probably want to see an Endocrinologist and get treatment for osteoporosis so it doesn't get worse and gets better. When you see the specialist ask to be started on Forteo because you meet the FDA criteria - severe bone density loss and a fracture. Keep posting with questions and we will try and answer them. After you get the reports back maybe it won't be so scarey. I know that I was shocked when I got my initial bone density test back last summer.

Re: I Am Only 31!!

I know the feeling believe me. I am a 41 year old male with severe case as well. After a car accident two years prior I assumed it was from that and a bad chiropractor I seen for a wile. For two years my back kept popping and hurting so severely. Finally I went in to the doc and found I had shrunk 4 ½ inches in 2 years. New MRI’s found 10 compressed vertebrae fractures missing 40 to 50% of each. They also found multiple pinched main root nerves and discs as a result. I was tested for everything from hormones to Cushing’s. They doubted the odds that the last thing I was tested for would be it either. They said the odds were better of me winning a lottery than having a rare incurable disease called Systemic Mastocytosis. Bone marrow biopsy tests confirmed it. Treatments have been rough. One of the Chemo treatments they are using to build bone mass seams to be working GREAT!!! They took me off Fosamax and put me on an I.V. bone cancer med called Aredia. I think it’s working great because I can even sneeze or cough and sleep in bed without breaking anything. I swear I feel so sorry for any of you here who suffer with this. I never understood just how important bone mass was and how painful it could be to have them crumble this way. I hope to here more from you all.

John

Re: I Am Only 31!!

Witchesway!!!!,

I am so happy to here from you! Was getting sincerely worried. Pre diabetes should not be underestimated but that is not the cause of this bone thing. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO FIND A CAUSE??? If your asking about my spinal # I think you might mean bone density? They were –3.9. Yes I do understand what's a compression fracture Wedging on T3. I also know hourglass looking wedges to several others too. No fun and traumatically painful.

Before my diagnoses for a cause my guru specialist in Osteoporosis doctor who was one of the first to prescribe and is still the largest prescriber of Forteo in the Midwest wanted me to go on it. Problem was I kept flunking the Calcium Urine test. Apparently you are not supposed to be on that drug if you have too much calcium??? Because of that she had me continue fosamax until a diagnoses was finally found.

You need a diagnosis for a cause. Remember the shock from the woman who tests for this every day??? Your Only 31??? Your family needs all of you healthy “homeschooling housewife”. Please keep us informed. I apologize for seaming so pushy but I'm just concerned.

Good luck
JohnD
