At the first of this year I got a canker sore in my mouth, my doctor put me on Valtrex and this got rid of the sore. But since the first of the month I have gotten canker sores about every three weeks. My docotor said if it happens again he's going to send me to an ENT. My Gastrointestinal specialist tested me for Chrons because of the sores but the test came back negative. What type of things would a ENT test for? Is there anything I can do to prevent getting canker sores in my mouth?
You might want to consider changing your diet? Try eating a yogurt a day. Drink a good amount of water throughout the day. Drink milk. Cut out acidic foods for awhile and see if it makes a difference. Rinse your mouth with salt water a few times a day (as you can). Avoid cutting your mouth in any way (sharp foods, chewing on your cheek etc.) An ENT consult will involve an exam to rule out infection(s) involving your ears, nose or throat.
Tea tree oil helped my husband, he uses tea tree oil toothpaste, and for a while used the mouthwash as well. Also, he takes about 2 g of L-Lysine everyday, which helps.
