Coughing at night

Last week I felt like I was coming down with something, I had an itchy, dry throat and I also felt sick to my stomach (the sick feeling in my stomach came in waves) These symptoms lasted for a few days and I wasn't sure what I would end up with but it turned out to be nothing. I woke up in the middle of the night, for a few nights, coughing - I actually woke myself up coughing. My throat felt itchy then too but it was okay during the day. I thought I was over whatever I had but then last night I woke up coughing again. My throat was very itchy on the right side and in my right ear. Ive got swollen glands under my right ear but my throat looks okay. (I don't suffer with hayfever). I also felt sick to my stomach again, although this has now subsided and I feel hungry. I didn't have much appetite all week either and whenever I did eat something, I would feel sick in the stomach. Does anyone know what this is??

Re: Coughing at night

sounds like allergies to me. itchy throat is one symptom of allergies....also when your sinuses drain...it goes to your stomach and can cause it to feel upset. coughing....there is such a thing as coughing asthma brought on mostly by allergies. How do I know all of this???? Both of my kids..ages 14 years and 11 years...has terrible allergies....and this is exactly what happens with them. And I have dealt with this since my oldest was 5 years old. I would try some benadryl daily to see if that helps....if not, you may need prescription medicine. You can also request to be allergy tested to find out what all you are allergic to....to see if there is any way that you can control being around things you are allergic to. good luck.

Re: Coughing at night

I thought maybe I had an allergy too but the same thing happened last year (in June/July) and I ended up with a bad throat infection. The same thing happened the year before aswell. However, the coughing hasn't developed into anything else yet and I haven't had a sore throat so maybe I am allergic to something. I've also been sneezing a lot and my sinuses have been really sore lately too. I often suffer with sore sinuses and I thought I was getting a cold but I didn't.

I live in Australia so its the middle of winter here. There are lots of bugs going around, plus I work with kids so I'm always exposed to all sorts of things. Another woman I work with came down with weird symptoms during the week - she also had nausea aswell as shooting pains in the stomach and a general 'unwell' feeling. On Thursday she suddenly started feeling dizzy and almost passed out. I hope I don't catch whatever she had!
