Re: to start Accutane?

hi realsad. thinking about the tane, huh? so far it's been working well for me, but i did get a whole lot worse before i got better. i think your family doc could prescribe it for you, there's certainly no harm in asking! i hope you've done your research on this drug, as it is very powerful and can have some serious side effects. mostly it's just dry skin and chapped lips, but there can be others as well, so make sure that you find out everything you need to know before going forward, and best of luck to you! ali

Re: to start Accutane?

hi thankyou for your response. I am going to see my family doc. today and i am seriously think about accutane because i have what i believe is gram negative folliculitis, and accutance is apparetnly the only cure for that. I am going to ask the doctor for acctune and I pray they will start me on it. They have not taken a culture to definate diagnose this problem but all the conditions of this happening were there. It is a rare infection that comes form long term antibiotic use. I think only about 4% of people taking antibiotics long term end up getting it. I have been treated for acne first with antibiotics which made it worse, then various cream, then for a fungal/yeast type folliculitis, with oral and topical nizoral, and have no luck with that. I believe accuatane is my only option left unfortunately, and i realize it is a serious medication, but i am willing to take the risks as my face looks horrible and is painful and itchy. I will do anything fo rrelief of this. I am glad to hear you have had luck with accutane. I hope i can too. I will let you know how it goes today.

Re: to start Accutane?

good luck realsad! hopefully this accutane will work and you won't be real sad anymore. make sure to check in, okay?

i kinda suspected that i had the same thing, as the symptoms are all there, including the long term antibiotic use, but who knows. i was never tested for it, and everytime i went to the derm i forgot what the term was, duh! wish they would mention that kinda thing bef putting us on antibiotics for years, huh? luckily the accutane worked for me, although it did take a looooong, miserable time. it's worth it now though, since i am, once again, cute. yay! and you will be too, just keep your head up, and don't give up hope, okay? i'll keep my fingers crossed for you! take care, ali

Re: to start Accutane?

well unfortunately my famliy MD wouldn't touch accutane, he said it's just too serious a drug he wouldn't feel comfortable prescribing it, but i still have that derm. appointment next month it just if i had to go on it i would rather do it sooner. oh well, he prescribed another different kind of cream now, i think it's metronidazole. i have to go pick it up still. he said if it is going to help i should know in about a week. sheesh. i will update you thank you for being so kind and encouraging, it makes me feel better
