Oral Thrush
I keep getting oral thrush. At first I thought it was from the Advair. I ALWAYS rinse my mouth really well and gargle with mouthwash afterwards. Still I keep getting thrush. Now, I'm wondering if its from the Nasacort AQ draining down the back of my throat and not from the Advair. The thrush always appears at the roof of my mouth back by my throat. I'm getting really tired of calling my doctor for Diflucan.
Has anyone else had the same experience? Anyone had any luck with a natural treatment that works at getting rid of the thrush?
Cheri.

Re: Oral Thrush
I've been suffering with bouts of oral thrush for about a year now, ever since I started taking an inhaled steroid for asthma (and yes, I did rinse after I'd use my inhaler.....sorry folks it's not as simple as just rinsing your mouth after you use your inhaler!) I've been to my Doctor several times, tried the oral suspension that you "swish and swallow",called "Nystatin", but the thrush keeps coming back. My Doctor seems to think that it's nothing serious...however, from the research that I've done, this stuff can get into your digestive system and screw things up there too! It can also make you feel very self conscious, depressed, (I haven't be able to give my husband a proper kiss in months)! In any case, I started to do some research on the net and I've come to the conclusion that natural remedies are the best way to go when it comes to oral thrush. Eat lots of yogurt (the one with the probiotic culture in it works best!); take vitamins that are going to boost your immune system; gargle with tea tree oil; try acidophilus to get your digestive system back to normal;take a zinc supplement, letting it dissolve on your tongue; avoid sugar, as yeast thrives on sugar; don't let any doctor tell you that it's "nothing". You have to treat it from the inside out. I should also let you know that I stopped taking the inhaler that caused the thrush (advair) altogether and demanded that my Doctor put me on something else! I'm taking control of this now, before it gets any worse!

Re: Oral Thrush
Hi there,
I know this is a very old post, but I just came across it and just wanted to mention this: I thought I had oral thrush (I am also on Advair) for a couple of years. My doctor kept telling me that's what it was, and I had tried many different kinds of treatments, and nothing worked. I finally asked my dentist about it and he said that it was NOT oral thrush--it's a condition called Lichen Planus also caused by Advair. He treated me with a mouthwash that is actually for gingivitis (I believe), which I had to use for twice a day, for two weeks, and now it's all cleared up. It comes back once in awhile, since I cannot come off the advair inhalor, but as soon as I see it creeping back, if I rinse for a couple days (morning and night), with the prescription mouthwash, it goes away. You might've already solved your problem, but I thought I'd share this just in case!

Re: Oral Thrush
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me the specific symptoms of Oral Thrush, after a bout with Penicillan,I developed thrush, the lab test came back positive. I took Diflucan and it seemed to go away, and came back, only this time it seems to be worse,I have actual pain in my pallet, gums, throat and tongue along with the burning,my pallet and gums feel like someone peeled the skin off and it even hurts my teeth. Has anyone had this symptom or is it just me. I'm on my second prescription of Diflucan with just 3 days left and it still is painful. Any info is appreciated!

Re: Oral Thrush
Hi Zimm, have you considered taking a probiotic? Antibiotics can wipe out the good bacteria also and then yeast can take over. Probiotics can help to replace the good bacteria. You can get these at health food stores. We never take antibiotics without eating yogurt everyday to replace the good bacteria.
