What is Laminectomy ?

I had a posterolateral laminectomy and fusion with BMP on sponges that were laid on either side of my spine. I have no cages. It's a technicality. What he did is being done throughout the spine community. But the insurance companies aren't paying for it. It worked! Who told you that you were fused from L5-S1?

Im not sure about anything anymore. Maybe Im just fused at the L4-L5 . I thought I was fused at L5-S1. Maybe not,,Sorry about that, I thought I heard the doctor say I was..??? What is a BMP on sponges ? Did they go through your stomach ? I think that would hurt worse, Than goin in your back. The hospital called about my myelogram. I told them they better give me somthing to calm me down,. She said I have to ask my doctor. I did, I told them either I get somthing or I go elsewhere.

I had 2 myleograms and where I went there procedure is to sedate you. The first time I had it, when they called to talk to me about the procedure and when not to eat, etc. they told me what they were going to give me. The second time they let me know what they were going to give me then. The first time I had versed and vicodin. Right after it was done they gave me some toradal, because the pain in my legs was very bad. The second time around I had just this past April was zofran, demoral, and versed. I had the zofran, because the 1st myleogram w/ all the meds made me throw-up ALOT. Also, the second time my legs hurt bad, but the rpa tried to massage and rub the cramps out, because she did not want to give to much med. to throw me over the edge so to hope I would not get sick. My point of this post is I find that weird that they do not give you anything. LIke I said at the hospital I go to it is part of the procedure. I hope you get some meds. Let me know how it goes. Look up bone morphogenic protein. It fuses faster than a bone graft. He did it through the back and I never even felt the incision. I was mistaken about the myelogram---what I had was a discogram. At this point I'd put off the myelogram, too, since you're going to be seeing someone else. You're getting all tangled up.

Hazelnut, Thanks for the info.I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I called and told the Doc to give me somthing before I have it done.

Fly, I dont think Im going to put off the myelogram, This is the ultimate test. This will show what nerves are being pressed. I read up on this test, Its pretty reliable. Besides it might help Dr Foti also to have this done. I need somthing done soon, Im affraid the longer I wait, the worse the nerve damage could get. And this should show exactly where my pain is comming from. I have to check that Morphogenic out . Sounds interesting .
