Question Best Nasal Spray?

I have been told in the past that I have seasonal rhinitis. I have battled most of my adolescent and adult life with summer allergies. My best summer ever I took a combination of Claritin and Vancenase. This was back when Claritin was still prescription. Since then, I have tried Flonase, Singular, Zyrtec and some others, but I am still looking for a really effective nasal spray.

I mainly have sinus symptoms. My nose is constantly congested, runny and I have sinus pressure. I have spent years addicted to over the counter decongestants like 4-Way. I am currently taking Sudafed and Claritin. I don't have other symptoms like runny itchy watery

What else have other people tried? I see ads for RhinocortAqua, Astelin, Patanol. What works good for just nasal symptoms? I don't think that I need an antihistimine. Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Nasal Spray?

I have had no luck at all with anything other than Rhinocort...it's fantastic. No side effects (for me anyhow), easy and really, really effective. You do have to use it daily and it takes about a week to start working well. I've recommended it to a few major sufferers and they all love it too. Good luck!

Re: Best Nasal Spray?

You should try nasonex along with Claritin. Once you get your symptoms under control, stop the Claritin and just keep using the nasonex even if you don't have symptoms.

Re: Best Nasal Spray?

OTC Nasal sprays are NOT good. With repeated use, in time you will have permanent nasal congestion caused by their rebound effect.

You may think the spray isn't working anymore or that you need a stronger, better one, but in actuality your nasal membranes may too damaged for ANY of them to work. I read the warning on the labels but did not believe it, and then it happened to me. I had 2 nasal surgeries to try and correct the damage but they were unsuccessful. If you have to use a spray use saline, or get a prescription from the doctor.

The best decongestants are those taken in pill form. Eltor 120 is a good one - pure decongestant with no antihistamine. I used to have this prescribed for me but it is now sold OTC.

If you do not want to take pills then use Secaris Gel, which can also now be bought OTC. This is the only immediate decongestant that can be put in your nose without damage or worry of side effects. It is the "doctor's choice" - recommended #1.
