Re: Anyone with LPR? Please help

How did you find this aggressive ENT? What are the two nose sprays he has you on? I have improved with the standard treatment for LPR, but am still not symptom free after about 8 months. I trust my doctor's advice but I like to keep myself informed, and review all options. Thanks.

Re: Anyone with LPR? Please help

Sorry to answer this late but sometimes these threads are not showing up where I can figure them out. I am on Nasonex nose spray and Allegra in the am and Astalin nose spray and a muscle relaxer in case it's these cricopharyngeal spasms in the pm. My bacteria test came back negative. He just saw my white coated tongue and said he was going to check for bacteria in my throat. The nurse said they check for fungus and bacteria. ( Check out "candida albacans") My next step is, he's ct scanning my sinuses next tuesday and I take that in to him and we discuss how I've been doing. I'm suppose to be staying off chocolate and caffeine, it's hard, but I am feeling a lot better. My question to him is, with being on all this stuff, how is he going to tell what is working. (he told me to continue with the aciphex 2x a day). He said he would start me off with reducing or eliminating the acid reflux stuff since he is not seeing any redness in my throat from that. Found this interesting, my cousin who has the same thing said when she went to her doc the nurse told her, that she couldn't tell her how many people come through that office with the same complaint of something stuck in their throat. I am convinced it is more of a sinus drainage thing that reflux. I think acid reflux is the new BUZZ word for the doctors that don't know what to do.
The ENT I found out about is also a facial surgeon. Dr. Craig out of the St. Louis area. Apparently everyone has nothing but great things to say about him and he took an hour with me. It is more than I can say for any of these other docs who just want to add more reflux medicine. It would just seem crazy to me, I told him, that I would go from not even hardly taking tums, to having ALL THIS FIRE in my belly that I now need to be on 2 reflux medicines after I had a bad cold and cough.
Sorry guys, if I've repeated myself, don't know who I have said what to.
Does anyone have a gurgling sound in their throat when they swallow?

Re: Anyone with LPR? Please help

Yup Dokayo, that's me. I also have the gurgling sound when I swallow...like liquid is being forced through a small opening. Weird huh? See I DID have the reddened larynx and arytenoids along with the sore throat. So they said it was LPR. I'm on Nexium 40 mg twice a day since Feb. ENT doc said redness is gone but I still have lump when swallowing, gurling sound sometimes, neck, throat and ear pain. I even went to a rheumatologist to rule out autoimmune problems. So far all tests negative. He recommended an infectious disease specialist and get a second opinion about the titanium implant I had which coincidentally 4 weeks later I had the sore throat ack in January. CT of sinuses, neck were fine. EGD negative. By the way cricopharyngeal spasm may be a possibility, you're right. Boat load of blood work negative. I too am also considering acupuncture. Worth a try. Eventually they will find out what we have. Where is doctor "House" (like on tv) when we need him!!!!
