Baycol cases...

Bayer Settles 1,683 Baycol Lawsuits for $614 Million
Source: Reuters

Bayer AG said it had paid $614 million to settle 1,683 cases over its recalled anti-cholesterol drug Baycol out of court, which was linked with over 100 deaths in August 2001.

"We will continue our settlement policy. We try to agree on fair compensation for anyone who experienced serious side effects from Baycol on our own initiative and without acknowledging any legal liability," a Bayer spokeswoman said.

According to Bayer's Web site, the German chemicals and pharmaceuticals group now faces 11,300 Baycol cases, 200 more than previous reports.

Looks like they are still finding more and more VICTIMS of Baycol.

Sure,

The sharks are out now. Once someone gets a settlement all kinds of people all of a sudden start to suffer initiating the dominoe affect even when nothing is wrong.
Just look at Michael Jackson. Once somebody makes a "claim" everyone wants a piece of the action even if the claim is false.

But 100 deaths from misuse is very miniscule to say the least. More people die from misuse of aspirin and hosts of other OTC drugs.

Keep in mind that more than likely millions have used Baycol and have reported no problems except the 100 that cannot tell you why they took so much.

No company is going to settle a claim for "misues" by the person, so obviously they know their drug caused the deaths or severe problems. There are also many people who got extremely sick that never reported it, myself included. As usual, U can believe whatever U choose to, and we all know your NOT going to blame the companies or the drugs cause U KNOW they are never at fault......
