Re: Flagyl

I was given flagyl b/c my doctor thought I had a parasite of some sort and he said it was cheaper for him to give me the drug than it would be for him to test me for it...I did not take the drug originally but 3 months after I received the prescription all my problems began and that is when I started the drug. 2 days after that, my doctor did the blood work and found I did not have any sort of parasite or H. Pylori.

I know it sounds crazy...he said he could give me the prescription and I could take the meds which would cost $10 or he could test me which would cost me $80...

Re: Flagyl

The stomach is basically acidic -- that is what Proton Pump do -- put out acid --- no bacteria lives in an acid environment -- but H.pylori bacteria lives in the mucus and folds of the stomach lining.

So, to get rid of that bacteria when it causes an ulcer --- a PPI is given and usually 2 antibiotics.
Taking an antibiotic because of stomach pain is not the thing to do.

Lori,
If you are a sensitive person --- the antibiotic will cause you to have gastritis (stomach inflammation), yeast/ candidiasis, possible GERD.

These problems are not easy to get rid of since most doctors don't believe in gasto yeast infections, and if you read this board and the GERD board there are members that have problems that never seem to get better.
That is the problem you are having now???

I would try Mastica and a probiotic supplement--- I have used it and it has helped me and I think it is safer-- I have not had any side-effects using it off and on since 2001.

All brands of yogurt are not the same -- the one I use and like best is Stonyfield Farm because they add 4 additional active bacteria cultures. THis is the only yogurt in the USA that contain Lactobacillus reuteri a patterned bacteria made from mother's milk w/ alot of benifits!!

reuteri.com web site tells you about it.

There are others on the market that are also very good and can help.

I have not found that they help a bad case of yeast problems--- medications like Nystatin, Diflucan, Sporanox, and others may be needed. There are also OTC anti yeast/candida remedies available.

Re: Flagyl

Thank you Harry. I don't have H. Pylori. Is Mastica still effective for people who might have ulcers? I believe that is what the doctor thinks I have but unrelated to bacteria at all. Like I said she was reluctant to give me Flagyl and I've not taken another dose since my first last night. I've taken Mastica once today and I plan to still take a PPI. I've tried the yogurt you talk about it and we have it here in NC. I guess my question is will Mastica benefit me even if I don't have H. Pylori?
