Re: anyone on coumadin and smoking

have you had a stroke since being on the blood thinner? Or does that also prevent that from happening

Re: anyone on coumadin and smoking

blood thinners lowers the risk of a stroke but cannot prevent it 100%. i was still having many TIA's on coumadin and therefor had to have angioplasty and a stent placed in my basilar artery. there are a few combo of drugs you can take to lower your risk of stroke. altace shows a large % of lower risk and is a bp med. the side effect of it relaxes arteries or something like that. i took also coumadin and aggrenox. aggrenox has a 25mg aspirin in it and a vaso dilator in it. i also took coumadin and aspirin, now i am on coumadin and plavix. i went to coumadin and plavix because i was having some double vision problems. but i have alot of arteries in my head and back of my neck messed up. i hear plavix and coumdin are an unusual combo.

wow you sound like a mess and I do not mean that in a mean way. I will pray that you start to get better. I do not remember if you told me how old you were or not but are you young or has this been going on for some time?

Jane119

I too am on coumadin and plavix. I was so worried about doing this combo and posted a few weeks ago about it. I guess that plavix is an antiplatelet drug and coumadin and anticoagulant. I have antiphospholipid antibody. I had a stroke in Feb. which is when I went on Plavix and then coumadin a few weeks ago because I was still having so many neurological problems. How long have you been on both of them?

Good luck to you. Bern

Re: anyone on coumadin and smoking

since january...but i think your doc should have tried all the combos available first before putting you on those two together. plavix and coumadin is like a last ditch effort...
